Some of our users complaint about a negative number of unread PM's after we converted from 2.0 to 3.0.

One of them noted that he had 2 unread PM's in his inbox, but after converting it said 0 unread. When he read them, it said -2 unread PM's.

Correction, the messages were in his outbox. They where marked unread after conversion, and he read them.

This should have resolved automatically by the PM system. It checks for inconsistencies - after a conversion this may happen.

But should it allow/store negative numbers?

regardless, I am not able to reproduce. Can you specify what exactly the state was pre-conversion and what post-conversion.

I ask of the users to explain it in detail; he had sent 2 PM's before the conversion and the receiver didn't read them. After conversion, the messages where marked unread in his outbox (this is unusual), so he opened them to see what they where. Since then the link in the header still says "-2 unread messages".

Hmm, correct, outbox messages should never have the unread flag set. :/

OMG! I just experienced something similar! Between me and another user on my forum (so far) we sometimes get -1 unread pm message after reading a pm from each other. A quick resolution is to send a pm to ourselves and read it.

what's causing this?

I dont know how to reproduce the error.
