Avatars shown even if they are disabled (fix completed in vcs)

First of all there is no possibility to disable all avatars like it was on phpBB2.

Second when you disable for example external avatars or upload avatars the avatars which were already set are still shown and when the admin disables all three possibilities the user has no chance to delete his avatar.

I wrote a fix that adds a "Enable Avatars" at the ACP and stops showing the type of avatars which are disabled on the viewtopic and profile page. I sent it directly to nickvergessen so that he can review and commit it.

Ok, i think we need to revert this... remote avatars should still be displayed. Now phpbb.com is updated for example avatars vanished because we disabled it some time ago but of course still want to have them displayed for those having used them.

Why would you view "illegal" avatars?
The users can simply download them in the ucp (and admins in the acp) and than use the normal upload to reupload them again.

The notion that these avatars are illegal is mistaken, they are legacy avatars.

Sorry but I cannot follow your argumentation Kellanved. If an administrator says "No external avatars" then he also doesn't want the already set ones stay visible.

I have to agree with cYbercOsmOnauT, the whole point of being able to disable them means to disable them all, not just *new* ones. As an admin if I wanted to disable remote avatars I would want all remote avatars to be disabled, typically for page load time issues where you want to eliminate lag from remote image loading. If I disabled remote avatars but *legacy* users were still able to retain them that would mean I would have to go in and edit each users profile individually to remove them? Not efficient from an administrative side at all. I am not sure I understand this philosophy that user preferences should trump the board owner in this regard, which is how I interpret the comments from Acyd Burn & Kellenved. :?

Although I see both sides, I think it should be somehow possible to disable remote avatars completely.

Yes, i think we should at least change the language string within the ACP to note that this setting also affects the display of avatars.

As the text for the description of the Avatar-page is already very long, I'd say that editing the description of the "Enable avatar" option to something like:
Allow general usage of avatars;<br />If you disable avatars in general or avatars of a certain mode, these avatars will no longer be display within the forum. But users are still able to download their own avatar in the User Control Panel
could be fine.
