you have to contact the admin of your freeboardhost.com and ask him for a backup. ususally they don't give back up. so sad

Ask them, you may get a backup for a small fee.

well, domain costs about $6/year and hosting might cost you $100 year. its really not that much money to go through the hops of not being able to to with phpbb what you want and should do. i really don't like these free hosting companies nor you can have serious forum setup on those things. as a phpbb user i will give you advice. if you can't get to your data (mysql, etc...) then its not worth your time. i think many lads/ladies here will agree with me on this one.

Our backups don't actually work on regular phpbb anymore. As I'm sure you've noticed there are a lot of differences between default phpbb and the service we offer. They are also compressed to minimize file sizes.

Usually letting your forum members know you've moved via a mass mail or setting a board offline message does the trick to get moved somewhere else. Much like how you can't move a proboard (excuse my french ;)) forum to phpbb, you can't move a fpb forum to phpbb.
