Login problems

Postby MrDisaster » Fri Oct 30, 2009 3:42 pm

Hello, I tried to use search option but found a little bit confusing answers - so here goes...

Support Request Template
What version of phpBB are you using?
3.0.4
What is your board's URL?
http://www.samassaveneessa.info/forum/index.php
Who do you host your board with?
Bluehost.com
How did you install your board?
via Bluehost (installer)
Is your board a fresh install or a conversion?
fresh
Do you have any MODs installed?
no, just couple ads included into html code
When did your problem begin?
about month ago (09/2009), installed about a year ago
Please describe your problem.
Apparently users haven't been able to log in for a month :( Not too many users so I didn't think too much about this  For some reasons I had no problem logging in myself as I was using auto-log on with my Firefox 3.5 and only yesterday couldn't get in any longer. Weird thing is I just tried IE8 and got in without a problem. Some users have IE8, some use Firefox - nobody gets in

Problem was that when trying to log on, I give username and password. Next page I can see myself as logged in on upper right corner - so far so good. However, when I get redirected to main page I'm out again. I guess others have same problem.

Funny thing is I remember having similar issue some time ago (half a year?) but next day I could log on ok so didn't think more about it.
What styles do you currently have installed?
Original (prosilver)
What language(s) is your board currently using?
Finnish
Which database type/version are you using?
not sure
What is your level of experience?
poor/mediocre

Thanks in advance :)

PS. found this earlier post - is it useful?

using IE8...

cookie server: .www.samassaveneessa.info
cookie name: phpbb3_js8b2
cookie path: /

I hope this is what you were asking :?

I'm quite desperate here  and would appreciate quick help A LOT
Thank you

PS. the strangest thing is that automatic trash posters (whatever the real name for those is) DO make into members and post now and then - has someone taken over my forum somehow? That keeps me worried

Hmm, I changed

cookie server into .samassaveneessa.info
from .www.samassaveneessa.info.

as mentioned here
viewtopic.php?f=46&t=1837995

For the moment it seems to be working... what's the explanation behind this? I mean I haven't touch this setting before and it worked for almost a year without a problem. Weird if you ask me

I'll upgrade to 3.0.5 this weekend, hope that solves something (not holding my breath, though).
Any SQL ideas?

Looks like I need to get them MOD working too - recently getting more Greenspam :?

leave the cookie domain like you set it before with the leading dot and no www

now, go in and change the cookie name to something else, just add a number or whatever.

what this will do is force everyone to log in again to get the new cookie.

that will assure that the problem won't be that they are using an old cookie/session.

If there are still login problems for some but not all then it is most likely going to be something wrong with their browser/cookie settings.

most of the time, programs either work or they don't. any kind of intermittent problems are going to be user based or system/hardware based.
