Public Interest Registry's Public Awareness Campaign

Postby TGI-ECT » Mon Jan 01, 2007 2:22 pm

I found this in the latest ISOC newsletter and thought it may be of interest here.

Well, the whole newsletter should obviously be of interest, but this is a "reminder" from them which means it is of particular interest to them, and what is of particular interest to ISOC I'll consider significant.

Public Interest Registry launches Public Awareness Campaign
called "protectyour.org".

Public Interest Registry (PIR) has unveiled a new Public Awareness
Campaign called "protectyour.org". The purpose of the campaign is to
raise awareness of the dangers of allowing .ORG domain names to expire
and to offer advice on how to protect the value and integrity of .ORG
domains. For more information please go to: http://www.protectyour.org
Not TGIF. Not TGIM. It's TGI "ECT". Pronounced "ekt"

Interesting an a quick check on one that I have shows that it expires next month - forgotten that.
I think that it is not just existing ones that are at risk but also prospective ones. I sadly had to lock a topic a week or so ago where someone was using the GD forum to have a pop at one of the domain name searches where he had done a search on three domain names that he fancied and all were available. Later when he tried to register them he found that each in turn had been taken. He suspected that the info he submitted was being harvested in an attempt to make money reselling that domain name.
