Postby Acyd Burn » Wed Jun 10, 2009 12:18 pm

Hi,

Because we feel this blog post may generate quite a bit of discussion we decided to not allow commenting on the blog, but rather within this topic.

This topic is not for suggesting we add feature X, Y and Z to 3.0.6, please stick to discussing what we have announced. Thanks.

Good job! :D

I really like the new features, especially the "Exempt group leader permissions for groups" and the Feeds. The Group Management changes can also be usefull for spammer prevention. :)

Is there a feature tracker available for 3.0.6?

There is some great stuff coming :). Luckily the devs decided to turn QR off on default saves me a lot of headaches to find a way to get rid of it :P.

No. It would need a very compelling argument to get something added to 3.0.6.

Yay! I didn't want to post anything when 3.0.5 was released as I knew some of the things that were coming (although I was tempted). Glad to see that RSS managed to make its way in and the post limit for PM's I'm sure will benefit a lot of users (many, many thanks to Chris and Yuriy on this one ;) ).
I though Erik was joking with his QR comment, but on reading the blog I see it's true. I actually laughed a little reading it :P but I'm sure it will be a delight to many users. Nice to see some of the roadmap opening up to the users.

ps. alsmost forgot one - log searching. Fantastic! Trawling though 30 pages can get tiresome
Look forward to seeing this when it comes out.

“thanks!”, “lol” and “yes, i agree”

The way subforums are displayed has been quite an issue among many here I think. Maybe something to improve.

I totally agree with Kenny, these new features look awesome, especially the system where you can disallow people to use certain functions when they have a post count lower then a defined number. Previously you needed the Auto Groups MOD for these things. I'm glad to see that RSS feeds are in the new package, very handy for announcements for example. The new CAPTCHA system is quite handy as well, you can now easily add your own CAPTCHA systems, and choose between the ones already installed, makes it a lot harder for the spambot authors.

Lastly, the Quick Reply. I sat here laughing on my chair, because of all the discussion that has been on this before, and people running away when there was someone asking for it, creating a whole discussion. But I'm happy for the ones who wanted it, that it's in. I think that this is a fair way to implant the Quick Reply, because it's manageable per forum and turned off by default. :)

Like the ability to remove warnings via the ACP / MCP? ;)

I can't believe quick reply is making it in, but at least we will be able to turn it off (default). The other features look awesome, can't wait.

[offtopic]I leave for a few days, check back and phpBB took off, maybe I need to leave more often :D [/offtopic]

Thanks for taking the great phpBB and make it even greater.

I still think there should be a portal page included in the phpBB . But I guess that is out of the question...

Well it's comforting to know I am still in the minority here. ;)

All due respect to the dev team, your work is appreciated but I have to be honest here. I am disappointed to see new features added without existing ones being finished or optimized. I would much rather the development team focused on completing existing features that are not fully fleshed out like,

Adding ACP monitoring/management capabilities to the PM storage system

Finishing the warning system so perhaps you could completely remove a warning given by mistake without resorting to a hack

Refine the disabling of certain modules to remove the function completely from templates, residual code of disabled modules leading to general error screens... not pretty

ACP user management features to better manage users i.e. pruning of inactive members and those with a last login date of --, a 'Find a user' function for inactive users ...
So many support issues revolving around existing features that are not particularly user friendly and instead the focus is on adding even more bloat. Captcha/recaptcha enhancements I can understand, but not much else is really what I would call necessary when there is still so much room for improvement in the existing functionality and UI. Again just my opinion, disregard as usual. :)
