Highlight From Search Engine

Post by joebert »

Brian at Ozzu Webmaster Forum was nice enough to set this mod up on his established well indexed forum during the upgrade to phpBB3 & the demo can be seen there.

Here's some example search queries to see it in action.
Google
MSN
Yahoo

Other search engines are handled the same.

Note: If you're using a custom style & you don't see anything being highlited, that style author may have forgotten to do CSS for a class called "posthilit". More specificly, "span.posthilit".

When you use the built-in phpBB3 search & navigate to a topic from the search results, the words you searched for get hilighted in the topic so they stick out. This mod applies that same highlighting to topics when someone comes to topics from a search engine instead of the forums built in search.

If you're using a custom style & you don't see anything being highlited, that style author may have forgotten to do CSS for a class called "posthilit".

so then if we were to add the span.posthilit, how should it look in the css exactly? and which css file? thanks in advance!

Here's an example from colours.css for the Prosilver style.

Code: Select all

.posthilit {
	background-color: #F3BFCC;
	color: #BC2A4D;
}
