ezboard content issues on phpbb3 RC1

Post by lepage71 »

I'm not sure if I'm the first to stumble upon this issue in phpbb3 RC1, so maybe this is a heads up...

Awhile ago, using DrakNek's ezconverter, I successfully converted ezboard material into a phpbb2 forum.

The old ezboard content looks perfect on the phpbb2 forum, even the smilies, no random code appearing in posts or anything like that.

Seeing that phpbb3 RC1 was released, I made a mirror of our phpbb2 database and tried putting our forum into the Olympus design. In this test run for phpbb3, I get all sorts of code appearing in the old ezboard content areas on our forum (substantial portion of the board).

For instance, here is a sample to compare between phpbb2 and phpbb3:

phpbb2

Hey all...overall I think the site has been improved tremendously since early 2002, when all it consisted of was three pages and a poorly constructed rules notepad file.

However...we are seeking to further improve the usefulness of the site and if anyone has any ideas, desires, or demands (grr) for a certain type of page or file...please let me know and post a message below! :)

One idea I had was to drastically change the Setups page...right now all that are posted are my setups. I think it would be cool to post a ton of setups made by a coalition of all the drivers. I can password the page so that only league members can gain access. It would only work if we got 10+ drivers to participate in actively submitting setups for all the tracks...I hope something like this can be worked out, let me know. thx

Something is clearly different between phpbb2 and phpbb3 that is making these changes...I was wondering if anyone had any ideas about this problem. Anyone with ezboard content, or perhaps converted content from other forum types, might encounter similar issues.

That is interesting that that code does not display in phpBB2. The convertors that I have strip out that type of code. It may not be possible to do with the ezboard convertor.

In any case, what will have to be done, is run a script to remove that code from the posts_text table. Would you do me a favor and go to your database and browse the posts_text table? Find that post, copy the text and paste it here using the code tags. I'll see what I can do.

Interesting.

The convertor enables HTML on the converted posts so that it doesn't have to change all the HTML tags to BBCode. Just looking briefly through the new ACP, it looks like the ability to use HTML in posts has been removed.

Not sure if I did this correctly, let me know (seems the same?):

I had asked to have the text put in code tags, but I can work with what you posted. I have scripts for phpBB2 to fix problems like yours. I will see if I can upgrade the scripts to phpBB3.

I am working on it. I don't have a time estimate when it will be finished.

I have this issue as well when I upgraded to 3. The converter worked great in phpbb 2, but when I upgraded all the posts changed and these formating tags appeared:

That particular topic looks fine. Do you have another sample?

For those interested, I believe I have the fix almost ready for the ezboard html tags.

That's odd, because I swear when I looked at that link a few days ago, it did have ezboard code in the message content.

Any sense of when the fix will be ready?

The first version is ready, [Removed link].

WARNING
BACKUP your database before running this file. I take no responsibilty for any loss or corruption of your data.

This script has only been tested with the small sample post given above, http://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtopi ... 7#p3007837 and only tested on a very small board.

Instructions are easy:
  • Extract ez_adjust_post.php and upload to your phpBB3 root directory.
  • Run the file with your broswer.

I just tested this really quickly and it seems to work well...except there's one issue (not sure if the fix caused this or this existed already)...

After every old post, I have a space followed by the italics code "<i></i>"

Example 1:

Man I hope I didn't mess up everyone's race when I was dropped and came back in to say I was dropped !!!!!!

Please let me know if I did.... Sorry !!!!!!!! Doc

<i></i>

Example 2

The problem last night wasn't really the server, everyone seemed to get good pings. There were one or two cars that kept plowing through the pace grid and causing the guys they hit to get dropped from the race. Tonight I will turn off the rolling start option in the multiplayer options so that should fix that problem.

<i></i>

Example 3

Catch, you are the worst fighter the internet has ever seen. I see you get into fights all the time and say a lot of stupid trash. Think someone like myself needs to train you :rollin

<i></i>

- - - - - - - - - -

I have not seen any other issues, yet, but I'll keep looking. Thanks, this first version worked great.

I wonder if this <i></i> problem can be fixed with a simple entrance in the BBCode section in the Admin Panel? I'm pretty clueless about that entire section in there but maybe this is possible? Also, could opening the DB in a text editor and doing a massive Find and Replace accomplish this?

UPDATE: it seems that this issue is not present whenever there is an "Edited by" in italics at the end of a post, such as the first example up above on this page, which looks perfect in my forum after running Dicky's script.

My guess is that <i></i> was there before. If someone can verify this, it will be helpful.

We should be able to fix this by running the script again, but I need to make some other changes first.

I just realized that this script can mess up existing posts. It seems to be those that have existing bbcode in them. I have removed the script until I can fix this problem.
