Converting from ezboard to PHPBB...

Postby ScottBlinch » Mon Dec 20, 2004 9:02 pm

Using the convertor I found on the downloads page from this site, I keep getting an error.

I'm converting from this: http://p203.ezboard.com/bsacredselfhelp

To this: http://www.fightingwordsarmy.com/sacredselfhelp/

Here's the error it gives me:

Ezboard Conversion, Stage 0

Anyone have any idea why it's doing this? Keep in mind that I am somewhat new to the forum and PHP stuff...

Thanks in advance.

Try using the version found here:

http://ezboard-conv.sf.net/

I really need to get out a release that can replace the one on the downloads page.

Okay, I used the version found on that page but now there's a new problem. After the third topic it stops and says this:

Error: Tag not found after position 11213.
Ending tag of
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
and

I'm assuming this is in the second stage, but it does not show any clear indication that this is so, however. At the top it says "Creating posts," so I'll call it the Creating posts stage.

No topics in any of the forums are locked or have any restrictions applied to them...

Thanks again in advance for any help.

Okay, I think I've added code to fix that problem since the latest release.

Try this one:

Ah, yes.

You need to go into phpMyAdmin, and remove the table phpbb_ezboard_conversion, and then try again.

It currently doesn't check that the table has all the required fields.

I'm really glad for your work on this convertor, Draknek but I also got a problem with it. Maybe you could help me out.

Currently I'm trying to convert the forum
http://p077.ezboard.com/bsequelossavanna

to
http://www.psez.de/phpBB2/

I converted the sub called "German Discussions" and all seemd to work well. There were no error messages during the process.
However when I checked what was transfered, I discovered that only the first 25 topics (which are on page one) were converted.
Now I know that I have to activate the check box called "multiple pages"
which I did in the Admin control panel, but it didn't make a difference because I tried both.
(As you can see "German Discussion 1" was done with the multilpe pages option on and "german discussion 2" was done without it. )

I also tried to convert other forums but there was the same problem.
Only the first 25 topics are converted.
How can I convert the other pages as well ?
I'm wondering what went wrong and tried to find an answer here but until now I haven't found out what to do.
I'm using the convertor you posted a link to earlier.

Thank you very much for your attention.

Hmm, the only thing I can think of is that you might not have submitted the form before choosing to continue.

You need to press the button if you've made any changes on the form.

That part of the UI needs to be changed - I think I need people to tell me how they think it should behave.

Thank you for your answer.
I've tried many times to convert different parts of the stated forum (for about 3 weeks now..).
At first I was confused that only the same parts were converted although I did type in another URL. After a while I found out that I have to submit the form first and then start the process afterwards.

But as I mentioned that was a problem I had a few weeks ago and is not a problem anymore. So I don't don't think the pages problem is because I forgot to "submit" the form.

However I converted the "German Discussion" forum once again (this time to the forum called "German Discussion 3"), with the "multiple pages" option turned on and this time there was an error code during stage 2, maybe because I set the Debug Mode on 2.

-----------------------------------
Notice: Processing topic Sequelo - Neuigkeiten...
SQL: INSERT INTO phpbb_topics (forum_id, topic_title, topic_poster, topic_time, topic_views, topic_replies, topic_status, topic_type, topic_first_post_id, topic_last_post_id, topic_moved_id) VALUES (24, 'Sequelo - Neuigkeiten', 99999999, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0)
SQL: UPDATE phpbb_ezboard_conversion SET phpbb_topic=1022 WHERE forum_id=24 AND ezboard_topic=1572
Notice: Opening ezBoard page: http://p077.ezboard.com/fsequelossavann ... 1572.topic with fsockopen()
Warning: No postings found in topic nr 1572. Parsed 6377 bytes. This could mean that we mistakenly thought there was a second page.

------------------------------------

Now there are a few postings missing and the "only-one-page-is-converted-problem" still remains.

I also tried the same thing with having the "muliple pages" option turned off again, and there was teh same problem.

So to conculde there are the following problems:

- Still only the first page of an EZBoard is converted
- A few Postings are missing because of the warning message I got.
The Topic by that name exists (First Topic on page 1) but the link stated
in the debug mode doesn't lead anywhere.

I'm really sorry for taking away your precious time, but right now I don't have anybody else to turn to and I'm thankful for every bit on help.

I'm not 100% sure (the relevant code is a mess), but I think that the header is confusing it.

Try opening ezboard-parse.php, and finding this section of the code:

Code: Select all
function parse_topic_list ($page)
{
    global $db, $config;

    notice("Parsing topic list for page " . $page);
    open_page ("?page=$page", $buffer);

   // Get past any sidebars, etc.
   $p = 0;
   find_tag($buffer, '>Topic</font>', $p, '');

   // It's unlikely, but possible to have # of replies hidden, so we check
   $can_see_replies = find_tag($buffer, '>Replies</font>', $p, '');

   // We don't know whether page views information is there
   $can_see_views = find_tag($buffer, '>Views</font>', $p, '');

If you replace Topic with Thema, and Replies with Antworten, I think it might work.

EDIT: Or, indeed, if you just try converting a different forum. The above changes would only work in a forum with the language set to German.

Whow... it never appeared to me that the language would make such a difference. Thank you very much.
I changed the things as you said and now most of the postings (2963 out of 2966) have been converted.

But still the dates and times are awfully messed up.
I wonder why some posting are dated with 2006...
Could this also be because of the different languages ?

And another thing appeared strange to me. I didn't have the time to check every single posting right now, but I found one that has postings from other topics in it.
So basically two topics were kind of mixed.

What date format did you tell it you were using?

Normally the 2006 problem occurs when the board is using DD/MM/YY and the converter isn't expected it, but I guess it could happen the other way round.

I don't know about your other problem - I've never seen that happen before. Can you show me some examples?

Thank you again for your advice.

Now everything seems to be converted all right.
And the "mixed-up-topic-problem" is fixed, too.
So maybe the date was the cause of all this, I'm so glad :)

But I got another question.
I'm just curious where the script does get the "member since.." information from. I hope you know what I mean.
Maybe there still is a language problem because the information given in the phpBB profile differs from the EZboard profile.
Yet, the year in which a user joined is right.

Good to hear it works for you.

The join date is set to the user's earliest post. It would be possible to make it take that information from their profile, but the date shown there is for when they created their ezBoard account, not when they joined the community. In my experience, it will be right for a lot of people, but it's far from a sure thing. I prefer keeping it this way.
