Question on a one topic forum that is hidden....

Postby ponyboy » Sat Apr 16, 2005 11:59 pm

First off... I just gotta say that this is one of easiest installs I have ever done for such a powerful program. Thanks to all you phpbb developers from someone who is a green as it gets to setting up their first forum. :lol: :P Your documentation, examples, videos are excellent but I couldn't find exactly wht I was looking for.

Just to make sure I am understanding correctly, here's my situation;

I created a simple 1 topic forum that I have set as Private. Meant to be used for just a handful of people working on a project. It seems to be working correctly but just to clarify I do have a couple of questions...

1. Anybody who visits my site and can register into my forum but only users I give permission to, via the usergroup I have set up, can actually view, add, edit posts of that one topic forum I created. Correct?

2. Did I need to set up an actual Usergroup to achieve this? Could I not just find the name of a person who registed and give him permission to the forum?

3. Is there any way to prevent a guest from registering in the first place? Or would I have to do something like create their user name and password for them ahead of time? (not sure how that would prevent guest from registering though).

4. Is there anyway to serch in your phpbb forum by Subject Only? I do not see that choice. And my results were numbering in the 100's.

Thx so much...

Correct :)

You can do either .. Set up a group and then just add users to the group to give them access .. or go through the Permissions under User Admin and give each user access seperately :)

3. Is there any way to prevent a guest from registering in the first place? Or would I have to do something like create their user name and password for them ahead of time? (not sure how that would prevent guest from registering though).

You could always place the 'Restrict Guest Access' script in the registration page .. but it would mean that you could not register usernames for the people you actually WANT to be able to register. This feature is not one i have heard of and not one i have seen a MOD for.
The best suggestion is go into the Forum Configuration and place the 'Enable Account Activation' to Admin so that you control who actually gets verified as a member

4. Is there anyway to serch in your phpbb forum by Subject Only? I do not see that choice. And my results were numbering in the 100's.

Not that i have seen or heard of .. why not search through the Mods and have a look. If not, you could always Request a MOD :)

Such a quick reply "Gawd",

Did what you suggested with the 'Enable Account Activation' and seems to work like a charm.

Thanks-0-bunch :wink:
