Not just another restore question.

Postby Scotty Curtis » Thu Jun 16, 2005 6:45 am

Hello ,
I am currently running a phpbb forum, but want to play around with the site a bit with out wrecking anything. So I have an entirely different domain, and am uploading phpbb2 as we speak, I have to setup new database on this domain. Here is the question, Can I restore my current forum backup to this other domain and use it as a test site? Will there be any conflicts or anything I need to change ie config file ??

Cheers
Scotty

Do you mean database backup or forum backup or both?

If you mean forum backup you will need to edit config.php to change the values for the new database etc.

If you mean database backup you will need to change the configuration to reference the URL of the new domain. You can either do this by editing the backup file before restoring or you can get away with doing this in the ACP after restoring. You will be directed to your other real URL when you login but you can then simply go back to the ne domain and you will be logged in and can access the ACP to change the value.

Hope this helps.
