MOD Validated/Released

Notes:
After this MOD is installed, the "Leave shadow topic in old forum" option that is displayed in the Move Topic screen will not be checked by default. This will help in case a shadow topic is accidentially left when it is not intended to be.

Potential future update (no scheduled release date, as I'm not even working on this at this time): provide a mechanism in the forum admin screen to specify this value ON or OFF on a forum-specific basis.

Sweetly easy mod.

I did this long ago, but i hate shadow copies. I dont allow them on my board. We move probably 10 to 20 topics every day.

What would be usefull is a way to delete the copies without delteing the posts (found this out the hard way.

anyway, i deleted the whole line and the break. I dont care if it exists in the modcp, my users cant see it.

thanks for the submission though.

Is there really no way to remove those shadow copies that we have already accidentally created? I really hate them. :(

But thanks for the mod. It's great! Now my moderators have no excuse to mess up my forum, hehe.

Yes. Click the "You can moderate this forum" link at the bottom, check the box belonging to the shadow topic(s)' row, and click "Delete".

Oh, excellent! I never noticed that tiny little link before.

LOL. I actually went through the trouble of deleting an entire forum full of shadows and then creating a new one.

hey guys :)

do you know if there is a way to just turn off this feature completely?

I'm sure I saw a mod or a way once but for the life of me can't put my cyberfinger on it!

cheers :)

You mean never allow shadow topics at all?

I would suspect you could simply remove the interface element (the checkbox) and that variable could never be set, therefore you would never get shadow topics.

Ever. :-)

Yes. Click the "You can moderate this forum" link at the bottom, check the box belonging to the shadow topic(s)' row, and click "Delete".

Doesn't that delete both posts though? It doesn't just delete the shadow topic, but also the original topic, correct?

If you delete the topic, using the delete topic icon, then yes I believe you are correct. But if you use the moderator control panel and delete only the "shadow" then I believe the other topic remains.

The safest way to confirm this is with a simple test. :-) Create a topic, move it and leave a shadow, then use the moderator control panel to delete the shadow as described. If the other topic remains, then you have your answer. 8)
