inserting adsense

Postby Orionvortex » Tue Apr 18, 2006 4:47 pm

I followed your forum and I inserted adsense into the index_body.tpl, viewforum_body.tpl, and viewtopic_body.tpl files but there are no ads displaying in my forum. My forum is http://www.chibabeat.com/phpBB/index.php
Any suggestions?

I don't remember saying anything about mods. The method I went with was without the mods. What I'm confused about is why it still isn't showing the ads despite following what the forum said.

If you want to add adsense in your forum. You need to MODify some files.

You obviously used FTP to get the files and edit them.
But, did you uplad them and overwrite the files on the server?

If you dont see any ads displayed.
Either you modified the files incorrectly or did not upload and overwrite the files on the server.

Ok I figured out what I did wrong. I thought that I was on subsilver but it was actually BBlite. I changed the files and it worked great. Now I've got a problem with the ads. All they are advertising is php and MySQL ads. Even if you go to content pages like this one http://www.chibabeat.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=8 you will just see the same. Is this just because there isn't enough content or is it because the google adsense is reading content from something else like php code? Is there any way around this?

no it means that you are being very impatient.

it takes some time, maybe weeks before you will get only relevant ads.

at least days.

no it means that you are being very impatient.

I've received a lot of help from this forum, and a lot of what I deem nasty to semi-nasty remarks. Comments like this are not needed. I have come to expect a rude remark on almost any post I post Myself or read on this forum. I understand that a lot of 'newbies' come here asking what you may deem as 'stupid' questions... but I'm just tired of people here treating the 'newbies' like crap.

as far as relevancy of ads goes... Your patience may have little to nothing to do with it. Often times ads will come up with the type of ads you are looking for on the very first time you check. Sometimes after weeks of relevant ads, you'll suddenly get strange off topic ads. There are guidlines in Googles adsense help areas that will show you how to target specific keywords.

Orion, if you are still watching this thread, I'd like to offer one suggestion. I've read reports of better CTR if you change your adsense background to match your forums background. plus it will look a little nicer.

Dustin07, I really appreciate you sticking up for me there. I know that I tend to ask some stupid questions but I'm glad that some people still remember what it was like to be a newbie.

Also, thanks for the suggestion on the background color of the ads. I will see if I can get something that will blend in a little better.

no problem :D

I just did a quick view source to grab a couple background color codes and saw these on your page :#f1f1f1 and #ffffff.

Now I didn't actually check those, but they are far different from the Google bg code. So try all the colors you can find yourself using on that template and see which one looks best.

Overall, forums have a very low ctr, so making it look nice is more important than raising CTR most likely, since it will have a very small effect anyways.

I am trying to compile a list of procedures that I am currently using on how I integrate Google Adsense with phpBB. Maybe the related topics in my forum can help you:
