allow moderator to post flash without MODs

Postby michaellunsford » Thu Jul 13, 2006 5:20 pm

Don't slap me down too hard if this is a really bad question, as I am a noob to PHPbb.

The ability to post flash content (using a simple <embed>) to a REG restricted board is needed. No one has the ability to post but the admin, and each message entirely consists of a flash file containing an audio stream.

I've tried turning HTML on in prefs, but it always says "HTML is OFF" when posting. Also, I tried the MOD bracket-flash-bracket thing (but I'm not running a modded PHPbb).

I'm not excited about modding because I don't want anyone to have access to post flash except one admin. How to do this?

PS> The little red devil on my shoulder says I can use phpMyAdmin to do whatever I want -- so far, I have been able to resist.

You cannot use [flash] tag without installing the bbcode flash MOD.
i'm not so sure it can be a wise idea enabling the related html code via ACP ... I don't know even if inserting a flash file will work or if there will be the usual troubles with stripped attributes.

I checked in phpMyAdmin, and the only tags that are being converted are the greater-than and less-than that surround the <embed>.

I can do a quick mysql query to replace &gt;embed with <embed and "&lt; with "> on a specific user's posts. It might be the long way around, but considering the risks associated with allowing HTML or the flash mod, and the fact that the specific content I'm working with is static for the foreseeable future, it is probably the best I can hope for.
