sounds intersting,

is there also a possibility to unmark the spam-comments in the admin panel like in wordpress in case the message is not spam?

This mod just stops the post going into the database and informs the user, it does not store the post at all.

You should probably provide a link to Akismet so people can see exactly what it does.

I meant in his original post. Not the mod. Some people like to know what they are installing beforehand.

Akismet is a two-way street

Postby baptiste » Sat Nov 11, 2006 1:09 am

Allowing for Akismet submissions (Admins can click a 'SPAM' icon for a post and it's submitted to Akismet) would make this even more powerful for phpBB since it would likely get certain phpBB spams that haven't hit Wordpress blogs yet into Akismet faster.

It's about time! :D

Are you reusing Fountain of Apples' code?

Anyway, good luck with this MOD.

May I also suggest to store posts tagged as spam in a hidden forum? This would allow moderators to mark false positives.
I no longer develop for phpBB. Sorry...

This sounds fantastic, it seems to work well on wordpress, how well does it work on phpBB?

I also saw some details on http://akismet.com/blog/2006/06/phpbb/ which links to a mod similar to this, but has since been abandoned, see http://www.phpbb.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=393648

Someone should grab this by the balls!

I've been looking forward to a phpBB MOD tying in Akismet's protection for some time.

And while it's great seemingly spammy posts are blocked, I think it would be much better to store them in a moderation queue of sorts, perhaps even listening them in the regular forums but visible only to admins and/or mods. The user making the post could be notified that their post is awaiting moderation.

This gives allowed users the chance to flag messages as spam which Akismet misses as well as flagging messages as "ham" that Akismet mistakes for spam. Akismet is notified each time a message is mis-flagged, and it is this ever-growing, ever-training aspect which makes Akismet so powerful.

Merely blocking the post up front does not provide the opportunity for Akismet to learn and adapt to what constitutes spam or ham.

At the very least, if spam gets through, there should be capability to flag it as spam with Akismet while deleting it from your board.
