Is there a way to prevent hotmail sending mail to junk/spam?

Postby Wakas » Wed Feb 21, 2007 7:24 pm

I have noticed members who use a hotmail address to sign up to my forum get the confirmation email automatically sent to their junk/spam mail folder?

Is there any way to prevent that?

Thanks.

Do you have Admin activation enabled? If so, you can manually send the email via your own account when you see a new registrant with one of these types of addresses.

Thanks for the suggestion.

After doing some searching on these forums, it seems this is a common problem.

I have an idea though, when a user registers the next page says:

"Your account has been created. However, this forum requires account activation. An activation key has been sent to the e-mail address you provided. Please check your e-mail for further information

Click Here to return to the Index"

Why cant we change it to:

"Your account has been created. However, this forum requires account activation. An activation key has been sent to the e-mail address you provided. Please check your e-mail (if you do not see it there also check your spam/junk mail folders) for further information.

Click Here to return to the Index"

Does anyone think this is a good idea? If so, what file do we need to edit?

Thanks.

It's a good idea, although you have more faith in the fact that people read anything than I do. The file is language/lang_english/lang_main.php.

I did the same as you.

But I also posted a global announcement in which I explain the problem. I put a link to that announcement in the line on the register page where email is explained.

I even made a small guide, on a html-page, with some images, in which I explain how to configure Hotmail junkfilter. In the announcement there´s a link to that guide.

Some people must end up dizzy before ever getting to register.

But I believe all this could help a bit. :)
