Translator Tool (Easy Translation Management)

Post by Matthijs »

A very handy tool I created to do and maintain a translation:

http://www.matthijs.net/downloads/tools/translate.phps

To use this tool, copy-paste the text from your browser into a file called translate.php and put this into the root directory of your phpBB installation.

Edit the file with an editor of choise to set the configuration options (e.g. to and from languages and lang_main, lang_admin)

Update: New version supports 2.0.1 style translation files and fixes some little bugs.

Note: This translation tool does currently NOT support the translation of the FAQ. If anyone wants to add some scripting for that, I'll be pleased to insert it into the script and update the version. PM or email me about that, but be sure to use the official phpBB coding style.

NEWS:
Not supported by me, but nevertheless interesting:

Does the lang_admin.php, lang_bbcode.php, lang_faq.php, lang_main.php files.

Just released a new version (1.1.0) to support 2.0.1 language files. It's now fully bugfree, all variables will be translated.

Copy-paste the code from your browser into a .PHP file on your server. Downloading it will not work, since it's formatted in HTML.

Great tool, but if it can load the existed tranlations, just do some adjustment and optimization work, it will be better. Thanks anyway.

Just translated to Spanish -- now what?

Post by shag »

Hi,

I used your translation tool to make a Spanish version and it works great. However I have 2 questions:

a) What name should I give to the file with the translation and where I must place it?

b) Is there any problems with the images? I tried to download the Spanish pack (all the versions available in your site) but all the files seem to be empty.

Thanks a lot for your efforts.

a) You should make a new dir in de language dir and call it lang_spanish, put your files called lang_main.php and lang_admin.php in that dir.

b) best thing to do would be to modify the existing Spanish translation which is downloadable from http://www.phpbb.com/downloads.php To do that, install it first and run the translation tool on it with modified options.

If you don't succeed, open up a topic for it, since I'm currently too busy to be of much assistance.

Yes you can. Just make the translate_to line of translate.php read:

Code: Select all

$translate_to = "hebrew";
This will preload the existing hebrew into the fields. If this does not work, it might have to do with the content-type...
