Modifications Team Volunteer Positions
The Modifications Team is a great place to get involved with opensource and to help out the phpBB project. On this page we will list all open volunteer positions on the phpBB Modifications Team.
After getting invited to join the Modifications Team with your role as one of the following volunteer positions, you will undergo training on how to moderate or how to validate modifications and use the validation tools.
As with all phpBB Teams, all positions on the phpBB Modifications Team are unpaid volunteer positions.
Moderators
We are not currently seeking any moderators.
Validators
We are currently looking for people to validate modifications. Members of the validation team have gone on to become members of the phpBB Development Team, and membership is an excellent opportunity to receive training on how to write secure PHP code.
Validators ensure that all modifications submitted to the phpBB.com modifications database adhere to a minimum quality standard, are secure, and operate as advertised. This validation mark is trusted by thousands of webmasters to choose the best quality MODs to install on their forums. By being on the validation team you will be part of the a team that helps make phpBB great.
Many validators find that over time they lack the time to continue developing their own modifications. These are individual considerations that any applicant is responsible for. The phpBB Modifications Team will continue to support any team member who wishes to continue developing MODs while on the team as many currently do.
Time to work on MODs is extremely flexible. Work on as many modifications as you like, for as many hours as you like. Some people can give more time than others, and that is alright. Every bit counts. With many team members holding down jobs, at University, and at school we realise the need to allow flexibility over time, and occasional breaks from validation, and of course we realise that phpBB is a hobby.
Requirements
- An active participant in the phpBB modifications community
- Good written English skills are important
- Excellent work ethic is essential
- Good PHP and database skills
- Excellent phpBB3.0 knowledge
- A few hours a week to work on MODs
- Able to read and understand code written by people other than yourself
How to Apply
There is a two step application process. To begin send us a page CV (list only modifications and relevant coding experience) and a cover letter explaining why you want to be on the phpBB Modifications Team, and what you can contribute to mod-team@phpbb.com. Be sure to include your phpbb.com username somewhere within the email.
From there we will send you a small untimed exam to complete. The exam will allow you to demonstrate that you are able to handle tasks involved in modification validation. You may withdraw your application at any time.
