I seem to remember reading that's already in progress (similar to how wordpress does it).

WordPress is basically the web script's world gold standard, as far as one-click-upgrades go.

This feature alone would propel phpBB into a league of its own, forumwise.

Thanks for considering it!

Spelling is freeware, which means you can use it for free.
On the other hand, it is not open source, which means you cannot change it or publish it in a modified form.

Joomla allows the admin to update, including language packages and other necessary plugins, directly from ACP.

It would be just wonderful to be able to update phpBB with all the ease of one click as is done with other scripts like Wordpress.Org

It is expected to be in phpBB 4 (but no guarantees)

You should vote.

BTW - using FTP is almost identical to using a file explorer on your desktop computer including drag and drop.

Mick, using FTP badly can ruin your website. You have no idea how "bad" beginners can be in using FTP... I have ruined one or two websites for weeks when I started using FTP 6 years ago...

Clicking on "Update my phpbb version" as on Wordpress is MUCH easier and secure for beginners.

hmm, that's about the most lame argument I've ever read.

"Doing anything badly" can ruin whatever you were doing?
Surely you move/copy things on your PC all the time?

But still, yes it would be better if phpBB could be updated with a swipe :ugeek: (irony intended)
