Why not relocate extensions hyperlinks 'settings' and 'check version'?

Post by php-bb3-user »

Currently in ACP, when clicking at tab 'adjustments' we find in the (left) menubar the hyperlink 'extension admin'.
At click extensions window opens and at the right top there's 3 hyperlinks, the first one pointing at 'customisation database'.
But the other two 'check version' and 'settings' belong to 'extensions admin', so why not relocate them underneath 'extensions admin' in the left menu bar instead?

Furthermore, the hyperlink pointing at 'extensiondatabase' does actually not point to extensionsdatabase but to 'customisation database' which contains much more than styles only.
Assumption causes many times lots of trouble.

Which ACP are you referring to?

Due to your signature I'm not going to assume anything as the logical assumption would be that this isn't phpBB related.
Spelling is freeware, which means you can use it for free.
On the other hand, it is not open source, which means you cannot change it or publish it in a modified form.

Well.. it is related.. What OP means is Customise/Customize section in ACP.

Well.. There is no point to move those into left side module navigation. Functionality for those are small.. In other words one controller class is good enough for all 3.

Then why not use that terminology? (this helps in avoiding having to make assumptions)

Actually the link = https://www.phpbb.com/customise/db/extensions-36/3.3 which is the section Extensions (selected and thus highlighted) within the customisation database.

This may sound like Much Ado About Nothing (which is a much more interesting piece of writing) but using the correct terminology (which is in plain sight and thus requires no particular effort) avoids potential misunderstandings and is a lot more friendly, especially to other non-native English speakers (of which there are many in these forums).

Well, thanks for the comments.
@warmweer, I'm not as familiar with the terminology, that's why I didn't use that terminology.
And English is indeed not my native language too.
So forgive me for the language and just not knowing.
But luckily @GanstaZ has expressed it for me, thanks for that.
Anyways, at the tab 'adjustment', there's this link pointing to: https://www.phpbb.com/go/customise/styles/3.3 and is named 'browse styles database'
In the section 'extensions administration' (menu left column) there's a link pointing to: https://www.phpbb.com/go/customise/extensions/3.3 and named 'browse extensions database' followed by the link 'version control' and 'settings'.
So if there's no point to move any links, then why not rename it to 'to styles database' and 'to extensions database'?
Because a link will only bring you to a specific location, that's all the link does.
And why not also adding some more extra space in between those links, just to show more clearly that this is about 3 separate links.
Assumption causes many times lots of trouble.

Please elaborate.
Access Control Panel is the panel you get into when logging in with admin rights, correct?
And no, the signature is indeed not specifically phpBB related but meant in general.

It is actually called Admin Control Panel - there is no Access Control Panel in phpBB unless it is something added by an extension.

I now no longer support any of my extensions but they will start to become available here

You're right.
But beside the wrong choice of word(s), how about my latest suggestions?
