The problem is there is no official release date. If I told you we were releasing it tomorrow and a serious bug or security issue was found that required additional time, then the perception that I lied reflects negatively on the project. I'm sure an announcement will be made once the release is fin...

I know you can't tell for sure, but let's say based on the number of pending fixes / reports as of today, is it safe to assume the stable release will be out next? I would suggest, however, that you re-install using the package found here, as host installs are notorious for editing the default files and may cause other issues.

How MOD Authors add additional database schemas is entirely up to them. To answer your question though - no, phpBB does't have a problem referencing additional columns.

As David mentioned, I expect this will be addressed when the packaging guidelines are published. For now, most (if not, all) README.md files list where you should upload the contents to.
