I am running 2.0.11 and still getting spammed. Although I am convinced it is an actual person and not a spambot. I will have to try all of the above suggestions to see what works. No system can stop a human spammer that actually registers through your website. The only thing you could do to prevent...

If you allow some HTML tags via the ACP then it's not a security risk. Just be carefull what HTML tags you allow. Only allow simple markup tags that cannot be abused and do not allow tables, scripts, objects, embed, etcetera. Just stick to the ones I posted above + maybe a bit more.

in the Admin CP>General Config> tick allow html That, and add the allowed HTML tags to the list in the ACP. Don't add tags like script and embed though. You probabely also want to leave the table tags out of there because they can easily be used to break your layout. Personally, I only added a few ...

Just remember that it doesn't stop all bots or human spammers. It stop 99% of it though. If that's not enough then try this: http://www.phpbb.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?p=1258520

It cannot work. phpBB's index file isn't designed to be included. Either use an iFrame, use the forum as-is or mess around with the templates.

Well, you can do that with include but it'll break stuff and be a general ugly and messy thing to do. Why not use an iFrame? Stick this in the page you already have:

Code: Select all

<iframe name="forum" src="path/to/forum/index.php">Click <a href="path/to/forum/index.php">here</a> to see the forum</a></iframe>

There is no 1 MB limit. There's a limit on the time that a PHP script is allowed to run (usually that's somewhere between 30 seconds and 2 minutes). If the script is not finished by them, the execution is halted. On a default webserver this happens around 1 MB in size. If you want to backup large da...

You don't have to inlcude anything to make the forum work. Just point your webbrowser to the index.php file.

Open up includes/functions.php. I bet line 774 is an empty line after the ?> that ends the script. Remove it and try again.

Large forum seeks hosting

I'm the admin of a pretty large board (not the one linked on my profile). About 3000 users, most of them active. 170.000 posts or so, with 500-600 a day or more new one's. 100-130 Gb traffic/month. We've been moved a couple of times inside the webhoster's network when we grew but we have now outgrow...

The board this happened at is located at http://www.419eater.com/forum/ and that one does run 2.0.10. In total I am managing 4 phpBB boards now (I won't spam all the links here). The www button in my signature is just my personal one. The 419eater one is requiring most of my attention at the moment ...

Nope, running 2.0.10 so unless 2.2 has become the defacto standard overnight I'm fully up-to-date. Either the fix isn't fool-proof or there's an exploit. Should I repost this issue to security and ask a mod to move/delete this topic?
