Re: Very slow forums

I've actually had that problem with my hosting company before. Not long after I moved to a new, 'fantastic' hosting package with tons of disk space and bandwidth, a video I was hosting on my site spread around the web pretty quickly and my daily hits increased by about 10x for a couple of days. My h...

Re: Very slow forums

Thanks for the advice Jim :) I actually meant to say when I made my first post that the slowness doesn't seem to correspond with traffic. For example, this morning the forums were agonisingly slow, and there were only a few users online. Right now the forums seem back to normal, and there are more u...

Very slow forums

Hi, Lately, my forums have been loading very slowly, and sometimes the pages don't load at all. For example, a user will try and post a message. The page will be loading for a long time, and eventually instead of the "Your message has been posted" screen, a blank page appears. This makes me, and oth...

You can unban yourself using phpMyAdmin if you have it.

I contacted my host and it wasn't a server glitch.

I suppose I'll have to go through an old backup SQL file and try and re-insert the missing posts. This is going to be VERY tedious and possibly messy :S

Thanks for the reply :) The problem wasn't in the complaint forum, that's just how I found out about it. I did check both forums that lost topics, and auto-pruning is still disabled. "Enabled pruning" on the general configuration page is also set to "No". It's just so weird that both forums went bac...

Two forums just lost a lot of topics (template included)

I logged into my board today, and found a topic in the Complaint Forum that post counts have been reduced. Upon investigation, I see that 2 of the forums have been reduced to just 150 threads, and the posts in these forums only date back to about May this year when they should go back to the end of ...

Unable to backup database

I run two phpBB forums, and am unable to make a backup from either. I'm trying to backup from the admin panel (full backup, gzip compressed). One forum returns an "Internal Server Error" and the other just a white page. Both have moved onto a new server (but are on different servers to each other) r...

Thank you very much karl, that seems to have fixed the problem.

I still have no idea what caused this though; "agreement.tpl" wasn't one of the files included in the update to 2.0.19 so I didn't even touch it (or consider it when trying to fix this problem).

Registration Agreement

I admin two forums, and recently updated both to version 2.0.19. Now, new users cannot register at one of the boards, because both the "I Agree to these terms and am over or exactly 13 years of age" and "I Agree to these terms and am under 13 years of age" messages are both missing. All that is left...

I'm a little confused by your post, but you usually don't need to restore from the backup unless something went wrong. You make the backup first, just in case, but if you upgrade with no problems, you just stop there. I don't know the structure of the actual database, but hopefully someone else may ...

Definately back up your forum first! I recently upgraded a forum from 2.0.5 to 2.0.14. I just used the "changed files package" and copied everything in the "2.0.5 to 2.0.14" zip file to the server, and then ran the "install/update_to_latest.php" file. This forum had been kind of messed up by a hacke...

Thankyou so much, bcs. I am starting to feel more confident... now, as long as I am using the same version of the same MOD the other administrator used, I hope there will be no problems. (Like I said, this forum was in a fairly messed up state).

Thanks :) Ok, so when it tries to alter the tables, if it has already been done I will just get errors back saying they have already been done? Just as long as nothing existing gets overwritten or messed up... I just don't want to assume the database is ok, and change all the php files first in case...
