Yeah, the variable type is there, but there is no way (from command line input at least) to set a variable as an integer when it is read - If you put it into an int, then you just get whatever was in that memory location when it was created - Not what you put in. That's because it is encoded as ASC...

Isolate phpBB so that if another remote code execution vuln is discovered, the possible damage is limited.

Use mod_rewrite in combination with something like mod_dnsbl so that hosts running the various worms are automatically blacklisted. At the very least, send a 403.

Bump.

The attacker visited the web site again last night from the same address (and was redirected to another web site of questionable morality).

Was anybody else hit by this guy?

Just use a less bloated template and make sure the following are in your robots.txt:

Disallow: phpBB2/post.php
Disallow: phpBB2/privmsg.php
Disallow: phpBB2/admin
Disallow: phpBB2/profile.php
Disallow: phpBB2/memberlist.php

Google has handled phpBB fairly well for me.

I just realized that all of the messages sent out contain the IP address that the attacker used. Therefore, could anybody who has received such a message, check the 'X-Antiabuse' header and post the listed IP address?

I was not accusing the owner of netterhaufen.de. The reference to the site is a common factor in these attacks. I believe that the attack originated from Memphis, and if other people who were attacked by the same person can verify that the attacks came from the same IP, I will contact the administra...

netterhaufen.de hacker

A phpBB forum I run was recentlly hacked by someone using an IP address owned by Protel Services in Memphis, TN. This individual sent a message to all members of the site saying "netterhaufen.de 0wnZ j00!!". Apparently these attacks have been widespread, as the owner of netterhaufen.de posted a mess...

HugeHugh, perhaps this message board may be better suited for your needs: [This is phpBB.com ;) - Techie-Micheal] It works with MS-SQL, and includes live chat or telephone support. GPL means freedom from restrictions, not price Actually, it is the other way around. The GPL states that you must make ...

This issue has been addressed in several other threads. In the future, please search for relevant posts before starting a new one. The above messages are fairly generic and basically mean that either your phpBB settings are incorrect, or your MTA is not properly configured. Relevant information so t...

You'll probably have to write the code to do this yourself. The code in the thread that A_Jelly_Doughnut mentioned should give you an idea of how to go about doing it.

There isn't a way of defining global permissions for a user or group? That would make more sense for some sites.

If you have sendmail (or equivalent) installed, the probem is likely due to incorrect permissions. Check your web server log, and also your mail log (/var/log/maillog) on some systems). If you're using sendmail, read sendmail/SECURITY for the proper permissions.
