Could the strip_bbcode function be used with this?

Re: Case-Sensitive Search

You would need to run queries like: ALTER TABLE phpbb3_posts CONVERT TO CHARACTER SET utf8 COLLATE utf8_unicode_ci; ALTER TABLE phpbb3_topics CONVERT TO CHARACTER SET utf8 COLLATE utf8_unicode_ci; backup the database first. Awesome, these queries worked! My board is now successfully performing case...

Re: Case-Sensitive Search

Oh also, another question - Since my board is using the phpbb3_ tables, does that mean that all the previous phpbb_ tables are from an older version of the board, and are no longer used? I'm wondering if I would be able to drop those tables from the DB to clean it up and bring its size down.

Re: Case-Sensitive Search

Okay cool, I'll do a backup and then try those queries.

That won't convert all my existing data to utf8_unicode_ci though, right? It'll just set new posts to the new collation?

Re: Case-Sensitive Search

Okay so it looks like my board is using phpbb3_, which is set to utf8_bin. Can I change that to another collation to change the search to no longer be case sensitive?

Re: Case-Sensitive Search

I was just taking a look at our database through console commands, and in looking at the tables, it looks like we have a "phpbb_posts" table and a "phpbb3_posts" table. The "phpbb_posts" table is collated as "latin1_swedish_ci," whereas the "phpbb3_posts" table is collated as "utf8_bin." Should I be...

Re: Case-Sensitive Search

I actually access our DB via Terminal. I'm looking into what my options are now.

Re: Case-Sensitive Search

So I was just reading up about changing a database's collation. Looks like you can change it, but it only changes new tables that are created, not existing ones. So that would mean that if I wanted to switch to case-insensitive searching, I would need to switch to Fulltext native, and build a new se...

Re: Case-Sensitive Search

Actually, I just looked back at my old emails with the company who owns the board, and it looks like we're hosted with Slicehost.

The search backend is Fulltext mysql.

Re: Case-Sensitive Search

I'm not sure what gave you the impression that we're hosted at freeforums, but I'm pretty certain we're not. I didn't answer the question about who our host is because I personally don't know the name of our hosting company. In order to access my board's files, I use sftp into our domain, and from t...

Case-Sensitive Search

For some reason, my board's search function is returning case-sensitive results on searches. I'm not sure when the search started behaving this way, but I do know that I've had trouble getting the search to turn up valid responses in the past, and I believe this case sensitivity is the culprit. We'r...

Re: "Incorrect string value" & mysql_updater.php Script

I recently took over admin duties on the board. I've been a member there for 3 years, and the people who were the original admins are long gone, so I volunteered to come in and do the upgrades that needed to be done. When I was given access to the ACP, I found out that the board was running 3.0.4 up...
