Re: Directory of phpBB forums?

Hey, wandering aimlessly, I'm good at that, I won't have to hire an expert to help me! :-)

Re: Directory of phpBB forums?

Thanks for your reply Kevin. I don't think anyone has ever made one. It would be enormous. Well, that's kind of remarkable, don't you think? With all the millions of webmasters scrambling to create a niche for themselves, nobody has created a good portal to the world of phpBB discussions, the world'...

Directory of phpBB forums?

Hi all, Can anyone direct me to a directory of forums that use phpBB software? I like to participate in forums, and am weary of having to learn other forum software systems when I visit new forums. I like phpBB, and would like to visit only phpBB forums. I found one phpBB directory via Google, but m...

Re: How many phpBB forums are there?

Hey, good idea, thanks. Wow, 83 million results!

A quick scan seems to show that Google is not showing the same domains repeatedly in the results, right? If yes, your logical solution is perhaps as good a test as is needed for idle curiosity.

How many phpBB forums are there?

A friend and I got curious about this. How many phpBB forums are there? Anybody care to offer a guess?

Thousands? Tens of thousands? Hundreds of thousands? More?

Will be interested in your analysis.

Automating Database Backups

Hi all, A non-technical friend has a phpBB board. She's on a modem. Her forum has grown, and downloading backups via the admin panel is difficult for her. Database is up to 88mb. Is there a script that can automate backups of the database to the same hosting account where her board is installed? If ...

Yes, you're right, that's it. I can't demote myself. My friend, the new admin, just demoted me. All is well now, thanks again for your feedback.

Whoops, not quite. I was able to make my friend an admin. But I can't seem to demote myself to user. I see the control, and it seems to work. But I'm still an admin. I've made the change 3 times. And deleted cache, emptied cookies, quit and relaunched browser, and chanted rare Buddist mantras. No go...

making another member the admin

I'm retiring from the admin role on a board, and trying to transfer admin control to another member. I'm sure there must be an obvious solution here, but I can't seem to get it. How do I make another user's account the one that has access to the admin control panel, and take that privilege away from...

moved forum, search is broken

Hi guys, We just moved our forum to a new server, and successfully imported the database using BigDump. All went well, pretty much. Have discovered one broken feature. When we choose View Posts Since Last Visit, View Your Posts, or View Unanswered Posts, we get this error. Any suggestions? Thanks! -...

Answering my own question:

Found the answer here:

Quite clunky, not ready for prime time, but it works.

Thanks to the original poster for the answer.

new install - admin can't login

Hey guys, I just did a new install of version 2.0.21 using the Cpanel installer. Forum looks OK, but I can't login as admin to save my life. I've tested the password VERY carefully about 43 times. Even deleted the install, and reinstalled the whole forum from scratch. Tried the password reset featur...

Thanks again Bobble, I've already registered and posted a question at the first place you suggested. Will read your further advice with interest. I wouldn't recommend this approach as it is very costly. We have all had to learn about phpBB at some point and while it can seem quite daunting at first ...
