Re: Is phpbb the right board for us?

Preventing spam is only a matter of implementing a good Q&A for the registration page. You don't need to hire a developer to do that. Also tied in with the newly registered user group you can make the first post require approval before it shows so there's no need for any link authorisation either. Y...

Re: Travis folder

HAHA So far so good! I'm sure if they were extensions that were meant to hack my forum, I would have been hacked by now. But I digress, my host has Suhosin installed so that should help. I really don't think any of the extensions I downloaded here that offered their extension via github are made fo...

i think because geust users can see the statistics and prevent them to register and look for a forum with lot's of information.
I doubt that makes any difference. They join because there are things they want to talk about, regardless of 10 members or 100.

Re: How do I require new users' posts be moderated?

Have you taken the newly registered users permissions off the forums by mistake?

permissions
group forum permissions
newly registered users
select the forums (might have to do groups of 5 or 6)
newly registered user access

Re: Limit PM's in Account

You can limit the inbox size but that doesn't stop how many they get.
What's the bigger picture of what you're trying to do?

Re: How do I require new users' posts be moderated?

admin panel
general
user registration settings
new member post limit

If you're combating spam, then 1 post is enough and a good non-searchable Q&A question on the registration page will stop 99% registering in the first place.

Re: removing "Subject" in replies

I will suggest one caveat to using that (no disrespect to the author intended). It runs on a board I read a lot and if you visit and look at the new posts, then open tabs for every topic you want to read, without the RE: bit you just see a disjointed reply without knowing which of the topics it's re...

Re: Complete Newbie requires initial guidence

Hosting is so cheap these days surely it's simpler just to pay for that. Then you can just get the cheapest shared hosting there is and as the board grows you can upgrade the hosting package to fit. If the board doesn't take off after a year then you'll barely be out of pocket. It’ll have to pay for...

Re: Members not able to log in, including administrators.

Your hosts have updated the server version of php. The old version of phpBB that you are running is no longer compatible with the server settings. You will need to upgrade phpBB to 3.2.x Notes: Your server must be running at least PHP 5.4 or higher. phpBB 3.2 is not compatible with 3.0 and most of t...

Re: Configure phpBB as read-only (with login and private messages access)

permissions permission roles forum roles If there you can edit the standard default permissions so you could use the read only one and just edit the permission to reply and start topics to never instead of no. You can also make a new role if you want and set everything you don't want them to do to N...

Re: Configure phpBB as read-only (with login and private messages access)

Everyone is a registered user so it will set that for everyone. However, if you have other groups with a YES permission for 'can post new topics' or 'can post replies' then they will still be able to do that. You would need to do the same for them as well. But, you could set the permissions as menti...

Re: Can't login to my admin board 3.2.2

How did you install it?
Was it a hosting panel 1-click installer or did you download the files from here? It's a very common problem with host installs (which we don't make).
