Re: Which hosting is best for PHPBB

I'm not so sure there is particularly anything such as wordpress optimised. That's just ad speak for saying it's got the necessary server things to run it. Which, most of the time, are what phpBB needs as well.

We cannot really recommend a host, but we do recommend that you visit WebHostingTalk.

Re: Spam overkill on 3.2 board!

A good non-searchable Q&A will stop them in their tracks.

If you're using any of the wobbly letter captchas they were all beaten years ago.

Re: Silent Installation Failure on Mac OS X

OSX12 isn't out yet so I assume you mean OSX10.12 The installation issue could be solved much easier if there was some sort of log or error message generated... That would be down to you and the way you have your server set up to make sure there is a logging system in there. The issue will be somewh...

I'm guessing it's this which was written for 3.0.

You'll have to upload new versions of all the files you edited and then clear the cache.

Re: Mark user as..

Make the group a request one and put someone in charge of it. When people apply to be in the group they can PM the code and you can approve them.

Re: Post Confirmation

Indeed. You're creating extra work for yourself if you want that many posts in the queue. Stop them registering in the first place with a good Q&A. 1-2 posts on the queue is more than enough to catch out spammers. Their primary objective it to post their spam as soon as possible and that's what the ...

Re: Mark user as..

You could create an open group with a default buyers rank. They can add themselves to it and automatically get the buyers rank that it has.

Re: Smilies import not working on 3.2

Does the server error log say anything?

I can't see anything unusual in what you've entered which makes me think it's a server side issue.

Re: Multiple Special Ranks

If you have more than one rank image that will be fairly 'permanent' for that user, you can always make them one graphic file. That way they have two visible ranks but it's only actually one rank 'slot'. Not the exact solution but for some instances it'll work fine.

Re: Upgrading to current version

Yes that's ancient. It's phpBB2 which we stopped supporting 10 years ago.

1 - If you can get the database, yes.
2 - No

The database is everything. The users, the posts, the forums, the lot. Without it you have nothing. You'll have to hope you can get hold of the owner.

Re: Forum with limited access

Firstly, how are you checking the users can see this? You can only genuinely tell by creating a new account and looking at the site like your users do, not through the option to view the site with someone elses permissions. permissions group forum permissions registered users select the forum No Acc...

You need the database. Informe do not generally give you access to that. I'm amazed they're still running phpBB2. We stopped supporting that 10 years ago!

Take a screenshot of the page just before you click add so we can see what you've entered in to the boxes.
Might be the hosts mod_security not liking one of the entered values.
