Re: Problem to migrate data base 3.2.2 to phpBB 3.3

You really have to follow the instructions in that article and can't skip any unless you know what you're doing. I upgraded my big board from 3.2.2 to 3.3 without any issues. It also seems like you're complicating things than they need to be. Backup your existing board/database. Then delete/keep the...

Re: Updating Order

Frameworks are for cranking out projects without having to put together all the glue. In 20 years a project should have its own code base. You build a website with bootstrap, and over time you rip it out and replace it with your own collection of components. symfony didn't exist before 2007. Who ad...

Re: Updating Order

How ridiculous is this project in general? They''re doing an EOL while still planning another release, and they haven't tested most of the extensions for 3.3. These are all good reasons to take a snapshot of the product and support it yourself. These are guys moving on without concern for the custo...

Re: Installing the forum

Phpbb isn't very different from WordPress. Install it and it's optimised out of the box.

To prevent spam, use Question and Answer captcha.

Re: Trying to delete a user can exhaust memory

Off topic: If you are aware of a privacy-friendly way to prevent Spam registrations which I didn't find yet on the web (commercial with a reasonable price tag would be fine as well), I'd be eager to hear about that. So far, that's the part I didn't find a suitable solution for yet. Use Q&A captcha ...

Re: PHPBB3.3 and 3.2 Why ?

As with any software, to give some time for users to prepare for upgrade to next major version. There are going to be a lot of people who can't upgrade directly to 3.3 yet for any reason and it's important that they receive major security and bugfixes even if they stay on 3.2.x line. However with re...

1) No one mentioned anything about devs building in to the core. My sole question was "I would be interested in knowing which, if any, extensions you found useful."

2) The rest is moot.
In that case, i have no issue. Sorry for misunderstanding your post.

Re: BEST SEO extensions or how to for 3.2.x

I agree with your analysis completely. I find it frustrating that there a small group of fanatics on this board that are ready shoot down any discussion about SEO at first sight. They have a single mindedness approach that phpBB is SEO perfect out of the box, and any discussion of SEO is somehow he...

Re: Google indexing posts

I read that Google does not index every topic on the sitemap because if its AI bot feels that the topic page has little content or low quality content, like a few sentences or spammy links in it, then it will choose not to index the page. So the bot makes a decision about whether each URL is worth ...

Re: PhpBB vs Vbulletin vs xenforo

While I agree with your comments about phpBB having great performance and stability, I've read that the SEO aspect of the URLs in Xenforo helps with the priority results granted by search engines. I don't know if that is true, but what you just said is the opposite of what someone else had apparent...

Re: PhpBB vs Vbulletin vs xenforo

Phpbb is the best forum software ever! I still hold a licence to xenforo, i have moved to xf twice from phpbb over the years and then moved back to phpbb using my own conversion script. Will stick with phpbb now. Performance, stability, seo these are the strong points of phpbb. It does lack in featu...

Re: SEO friendly permalinks with topic titles in the URL's?

This doesn't happen often, ideally you would redirect the old topic -or- add another column to topic table to store edited titles for display -or- both and make it admin option - -or- ????? Yeah, xf does 301 redirect. All it cares about is the topic id, the topic title in url is picked up from db a...
