Where does the "views" count come from?

I find the "views" count quite fascinating. I always imagined that a database write on every pageview would be too database intensive and slow the system to a grinding halt. But phpbb does a view count really well. Where does the count come from/ where is it stored? How does phpbb manage to handle t...

Re: Is there a way to prune users based on website?

I see what you mean...the alternate I suggested actually exists...so even though there is still the need to provide a better search in prune users, my job isn't as painful as I originally thought. Thanks for pointing this out...using this feature, I was able to remove over 3000 users in less than 90...

Re: Is there a way to prune users based on website?

Also, another possible solution could be....when I go to manage users and click on find a member, I see list of users in the popup....if the list had a checkbox next to each user and allowed me to apply bulk actions such as "delete all posts, delete account and ban by email", that would be great! Y...

Re: Is there a way to prune users based on website?

I am using captcha and just installed Akismet. Q&A captcha doesn't quite suit me as my board is not in English... Would be nice to have the additional fields in prune users....in fact, all profile fields should be there...doesn't take lots of programming to put in the fields and I can't quite see an...

Re: Is there a way to prune users based on website?

They usually do use the same websites. One of the purposes of spamming appears to be to get some link juice leak...and so they use the same website. Many times it's similar websites.....of course, there are innumerable subdomains, but I could prune, for example: *porn* *escort* *t30.com and the like...

Is there a way to prune users based on website?

I find that it is easier to identify spammy users based on their website and would like to prune them based on that. Is there a way to do this?

User location

Can phpBB use something like the http://www.wipmania.com/en/api/ free API to show the IP location next to user IP address?

Ok, Adam, I give up. Please lock this topic, and let's all move to http://area51.phpbb.com/phpBB/viewtopic ... 05&t=35616

P.S. Pony99CA, I like your idea and have modified it slightly. Check out the link.

Re: What should SEO URLs/ Pretty URLs look like?

That would be a pretty long URL then. Your last post is 430 characters. I doubt you would want a URL much longer than, say, 20. My bad. I misunderstood. I was talking about topic title when I said topic text (I read it as title text). Including the whole post is not advisable. Now I understand why ...

Re: SEF/SEO URLs

As I am curious how you want to add a Dynamic forum sitemap to google or any other search engine (not the others as I believe one would want to have SEO working for ALL search engines :D ) as the content is every time changing.. BB's are not the only thing in the world with dynamic content. There i...

Re: SEF/SEO URLs

I'm asking if there is documentation that states that Google's PageRank algorithm takes result clicks into account. It doesn't, but don't take my word for it. Read the paper: http://ilpubs.stanford.edu:8090/422/1/1999-66.pdf and patent: http://patft.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-Parser?Sect1=PTO1&Sect2=HIT...

Re: What should SEO URLs/ Pretty URLs look like?

I would like to have the entire topic text in the url.. Just for the fun of it.. and that ppl can always read what the topic is about. :D :D  Not sure if you are being serious or sarcastic - can't decipher emoticons very well. But having the entire topic text in the url is actually the poi...

Re: What should SEO URLs/ Pretty URLs look like?

There is already a link on the board index, just under Announcements. Hardly anybody ever goes to board index, and when they do, Area 51 seems too exclusive. The link needs to be under COMMUNITY in top menu (where there are other links like Support Forums, Mod Forums, Styles Forums, phpBB Discussio...

Re: What should SEO URLs/ Pretty URLs look like?

For what it's worthy, I completely agree that Area51 doesn't get as much traffic as it should, and I personally would love for everything to be in one place. There's been discussion about how we can solve that problem effectively, One simple way is to add a link under Community that says "Feature R...
