Re: Post to Twitter

No MOD needed.

Twitterfeed

Sign up (it's free), give Twitterfeed your RSS feed and set the frequency it checks. Every X minutes it will come by and check your RSS feed. Anything it finds get's posted directly to your Twitter profile.

Re: Envolve Chat - Display Avatars

Perhaps it's only phpBB that considers Envolve abandoned?
Seems to be pretty actively promoted there. I'm getting constant notifications from them at least (I have it on my forums).

Maybe asking here?

Re: [Discuss] The dangers of ASCII mode

For OSX, the default for Fetch and Cyberduck is Automatic. Don't know what it is for Transmit. Cyberduck seems to handle automatic much better than Fetch, but I've switched it to Binary anyway. BTW, I do most of my upload/download via SFTP. Cyberduck does not seem to have any switches other than the...

Re: Some kind of IP mod

I use this — Duplicate User IPs
Also this — User IP Logs
This — Poster IP in viewtopic
This — Who was here Displays IP address of users. You can either set it to display on hover or be visible with the account name.
And lastly, this one — Display IP Address of Private Message

Re: front end for reading/posting in phpbb forum? (for MacOS

Don't know of anything that exists for this specifically, but I was thinking about this. You may be able to cobble something together. Most phpBB forums have Jabber as a notification for new posts. Here's what I'm thinking. Get a Jabber account and set your notifications to be by Jabber and not emai...

Re: Adding Social Buttons to our Customisation Database?

Hi Steve. It's all just my opinion of course, but it come from my experiences. I'm a graphic designer by trade, but have always had an interest in these things. First as a SysOp for my own BBS in the 80s and now as a forum admin. I've been involved in forums (as a user) for over ten years and since ...

Re: Adding Social Buttons to our Customisation Database?

On Facebook, things that you choose to like or post are only shared with those that you are friends with. There are exceptions, especially if you are completely unconcerned about your privacy, but for the most part anything shared is just shared with your circle of friends. Friends as defined by Fac...

Re: Adding Social Buttons to our Customisation Database?

Personally, I see it as useful. These buttons often link back to a specific page setup on the social media. Those pages give detailed stat info to the admin users of those pages. So from a MOD developers standpoint they can see which MODs may or may not be worth their time to develop based on impres...

Re: Adding Tweet and Share Button to Top of Each Thread

The easiest place is overall_header.html. But that puts the buttons on every page. So you may want to edit viewtopic.html or possibly jumpbox.html if you want the buttons closer to the actual content. Just a caution that since these codes call an outside site it can sometimes take time for the graph...

Re: How do I get my forum to show up in Google?

Google Webmaster tools. You may also want to look at Google analytics and Statcounter.com. Register your sites, post the codes that they give you and submit sitemaps to Google. That will help your index rating climb. I'm guessing you're wanting your site to show up farther up the list when someone ...

Re: Auto post to Facebook and Twitter

There is a way to do this without a MOD at all. You may want to look at TwitterFeed. I have an account with them for my forums. I simply gave TwitterFeed my forums RSS feed. Since the RSS feed is updated whenever there is a new post, TwitterFeed when it checks my RSS feed, sees new posts and then po...

Re: What's the best chat for the latest BB versions

Yes, I used Automod. After install, I went and got the API. I don't remember if you need to have a Facebook account or not (you might). This was almost two months ago I installed it. The only reason I remember anything about the install really is that it went so smooth (for me), except for the part ...

Re: What's the best chat for the latest BB versions

You have to sign up with them. Once you sign up they give you an API to plugin for the MOD. They control how many users can use the chat at one time and they control chat archiving and some other services. You can pay a monthly fee for more of course. The basic free chat though lets 25 users chat at...

Re: What's the best chat for the latest BB versions

The Envolve chat I installed can be available to Guests (Everyone), members only, or Admins/Mods only. Configuration is via the ACP and it's a minimal set of settings. If you have it set to Members or Admins/Mods, guests will never know it's there. It pops up in a different layer on the bottom right...
