Re: Cannot log back into the forum

Hi, Newbie here, never used PHP before neither I am a programmer or a developer. I followed a tutorial from a YouTube video, used FileZila for FTP, ByetHost as the hosting stuff and created my first forum yesterday. All was well, created about 5 categories and forums within them. Tried to log into ...

Re: Why My admin account is blocked uppon the first use?

The problem is phpbb!! This is the price you have to pay when using badly made software like this and wordpress and ofcourse there is php which in itself is another thing. With all due respect, I don't think this is true. I've been using phpBB since 2012 and there are thousands of sites using it wi...

Re: Lessons to be learned from XKCD forums being hacked

We've been in communication with them since the date of the incident and have offered our assistance. There is no evidence that the phpBB software was compromised. As they were running a version earlier than phpBB 3.1.11, old hashes were not updated with bcrypt for accounts where users had not logg...

Re: Lessons to be learned from XKCD forums being hacked

What I don't like in these cases is the sensationalism "forums being hacked". We have no knowledge as to what has happened in this case but my guess would be that someone, somehow has gained access to the server via a "backdoor" and accessed the database that way rather than via the software. That ...

Lessons to be learned from XKCD forums being hacked

Making the news is XKCD Forum Hacked – Over 562,000 Users’ Account Details Leaked . As mentioned, XKCD uses phpBB, a free and open-source forum and bulletin board software built in the PHP programming software. However, at this moment it's unclear if XKCD was using an older version of the forum soft...

Re: I don;t know how install updates

My forum desperately needs updates and I don't know how to do it.....please help. Have you read through Knowledge Base - Updating 3.2.x ? You don’t mention what version you are currently running. I cannot stress enough the importance of making sure you have follow Step 1 and make backups before you...

Re: Banned or suspended user receives "The submitted form was invalid. Try submitting again."

I did identify what I believe to be the root cause of P_I's observed and reported case involving "banned user message" Thanks for all the effort to track this down. My background is software development and I know that intermittent problems are always the most difficult and frustrating to track dow...

Good afternoon! How to me to change the main logo? I by default have a sample version of the name. I want to replace the name and a logo.
Welcome to phpBB. The procedure is documented in Knowledge Base - How to change your board logo.

Re: Improve visibility of posts with late approval

On our boards we ask our moderators to approve topics within 24 hours. If there are other posts subsequent to a recently approved post, we ask our moderators to post a quoted reply welcoming the new member to the board, thus bringing attention to the post. It seems to work for us.

Re: Banned or suspended user receives "The submitted form was invalid. Try submitting again."

Very, very helpful. Thank you very much for the time and effort you've put into providing an understanding of the functionality and how it operates. Although I'm definitely more knowledgeable about the issues at play, I'm stuck in a catch-22 situation wanting to keep my boards as secure as possible ...
