Re: Why forum over Facebook?

I've been running a fly fishing/casting forum for over 20 years. Facebook has been a huge killer of my forum at least. Groups of people who first met via the forum are now conversing on FB. I am very much looking forward to the day that FB dies :D :D The privacy is appalling - I read that they even ...

Re: Member wishes for all his posts deleting ?

I just noticed this discussion - I think it's a problem that we all experience at some point. The first time it occurred I had a poster delete all of his posts as far back as he could edit - it was set for something like 24hrs. My problem then was that, when tried to understand what happened, I had ...

Re: Resizing the display of avatars in prosilver

Brilliant thank you! I had to adjust .postprofile .avatar as well... .postprofile .avatar { display: block; float: left; max-width: 90px; } .postprofile .avatar img { display: block; height: auto !important; max-width: 90px; } A batch resize of images in the folder would work too! Many thanks, Paul

Resizing the display of avatars in prosilver

Hi, I'm sorry if this has been covered but I couldn't find it. I've revived an old discussion board that was ikonboard, converted to phpbb2 and is now phpbb3.2. I had quite a bit of help from vHiker - thank you very much!! Everything is working as it should, all apart from the display of the avatars...

Re: Are there any "non-responsive" styles fpr 3.2.x

what I would do is create a copy of whatever style you are using and rename it and make that edit to that style.
then install that style on the board and allow your users that don't want responsive to use that style instead of the responsive version of it.
This worked great - thank you.

Re: phpBB mobile app

I think that this is the most significant advancement we could have as forum administrators. I’ve watched traffic particularly over the past 6 years migrate to FB. Same people discussing who met through my board but now using a different medium. Push notifications bring them back. The app could simp...

Re: phpBB mobile app

Apps that live on your phone will bring you back through notifications. It is the same as the notifications we have here. It creates more engagement. It's a good part of the reason why Farcebook has taken over in my opinion I agree. Having a notification on your phone that there is a new topic or t...

Converting and importing old ikonboard database

Hi folks, I run a discussion board using phpBB and very good it is too. I converted from ikonboard after they stopped having upgrades. Actually that's not entirely true, I started a new Board because I was put off exporting the ikonboard database because it is HUGE! And instead I use it as an archiv...

Re: phpBB mobile app

Wow I didn't know I still had an account and guessed the login :) Anyway, I came across this thread because I'm looking to "push" notifications to a smartphone/browser on reply. I agree that discussion boards have taken a real kicking from FB. They are the main culprit I believe. (I've run the same ...

Re: Converting from Ikonboard 3.1.5 (out with the old)

OK thanks Dicky, I'll give it a shot this week. Can you tell me if I export from Ikonboard and import to phpBB3 (via 2!), will the forums, topics and posts have the same count/s? ie would f=24;t=13811;st=20 on ikonboard be the equivalent to f=24&t=13811&start=20 on the new install? I'll have to set ...

Re: The hardest question of all... how do you get new users?

Wow - this is a long thread!! The simplest way is to build a large and popular website and devote your energies to that. The forum will become an extension. At some point you'll start to think of it as the hub, but it didn't start that way and never could. Build the pyramid and a small percentage wi...

Re: Can I be sued over a users comments?

I've been threatened a number of times, but those who have threatened it have never actually taken it forward. Personally I wouldn't worry about it, at least not until they start sending you letters. Then it's time for some legal advice. In one of our cases God replied to their lawyers and sorted it...

Running a forum / (Emoticons)

Hi people, I've just joined this forum (because I'm converting from Ikonboard - sorry!). I've been running a forum for the last 10 years or so. And I have to say it's changed my life, I know that sounds very dramatic, but hell, it's just how it is! My board is a flyfishing board, and through that bo...
