Re: anti-spambot recommendation?

Sure, but AFAIK they will not be removed when they reach the post limit, because a flag in the user-data (USER_NEW) must be set to 1 to make that happen.

Re: I'm encountering an HTTP ERROR 500 when on the final stage of the install procedure

There is an older topic with exact the same error message: viewtopic.php?t=2323801

So, if you are running php 7.x on your server, you must install phpBB 3.2.x, not 3.1.x

i've try to understand it translating Bump in Ita but the result is something like: collision, clash or crash!
Same problem would happen in german, but the german translators used a more explanatory term translated back to english reads "Mark as new"

I guess it is the same group of spiders mentioned here viewtopic.php?f=556&t=2491366#p15125986
See a list of possible IP blocks used by those spiders here: viewtopic.php?f=556&t=2491366#p15126671

Re: index error - robots txt - but file doesn't exist?

Maybe because you have a robots.txt, but either damaged / misformatted or unreadable. Did you check the root folder of your board for a file called robots.txt and followed Google's advice

Re: Massive bot activity overloading sql

In ACP, this setting works for me: Screenshot_20181109_0800000.png (note the trailing dot) It doesn't work immediate, the guest sessions with that addresses are often still active. You can try to clear the sessions table from the acp main page, but be aware that everybody (including yourself) is log...

Unfortunately that will not stop server access as the server has to be checked for those IP addresses.
Right, but the number of parallel opened guest connections to the database will decrease.

Re: Massive bot activity overloading sql

It happens because a lot of search engines follow Google's "mobile first" strategy and index web sites imitating smartphone access. So a single spider is crawling your site with dozens of different user agent strings at the same time - on string for every smartphone model. You can identify those sea...
