Are you sure? I thought they were both internet bulletin boards written in the PHP scripting language.

Re: Installation trouble

The server error log can be found in your cPanel (if you have this setup with your host) look under Metrics or Logs for the Errors icon.
Post what will look like gobbledygook here between code tags.

Re: How to correctly move threads and posts?

Yea all well and good, I still reckon most people tend to start reading top left and work their way to bottom right and then (later) read from where they last finished reading: and that the majority of people fiddle around with the comboboxes once and realise the default settings are best. I was ref...

Re: How to correctly move threads and posts?

Just look at the bottom of this topic: you see three comboboxes and one of them is named "Sort by", so everybody can sort the posts in whatever order he wants. Also in UCP > Board preferences > Edit display options every user can set it permanently. You seem to have missed even two things. My gut f...

Re: Slow response to 'posts'

I am using a SMTP server to send emails, this is hard limited by my ISP I'm guessing you're self hosting then? Have you checked your overall speed - http://tools.pingdom.com/fpt/ You might well be a lot slower than you think all round and it's being highlighted when you post. I think it's been note...

Re: Getting people to join

People tend not to post on forums with no members. They tend not to join if the only person posting is the admin also.
Depends on the forum, it's content from the owner and whether you find it in the 1st place I suppose.
I got a feeling the market is already full/taken when it comes to most subjects.

Re: Getting people to join

if you want to have a popular site and keep members then you need to have some basic rules about how members can treat each other etc., and you need to enforce them. you will have a much better site that way. I think the OP is on about getting members, not keeping them. You can have the best rules ...

Re: 3.1.9 New Install - Cant Set Up Categories and Forums

What doesn't happen now? All No's are the default as they stand now ( if you use Do not copy permissions while creating the forum) What happens is some users not used to the software get to this screen perms.png and then navigate away because they don't understand what they're supposed to do - They ...

Re: 3.1.9 New Install - Cant Set Up Categories and Forums

How is setting all Nos as the default for forums yet to be created any different than what already exists? So that this In whatever time it takes between creating the forum and setting (or modifying) its (default) permissions, it may be visible to those to whom it should not be visible. Doesn't hap...

Re: 3.1.9 New Install - Cant Set Up Categories and Forums

You are not getting my point. In whatever time it takes between creating the forum and setting (or modifying) its (default) permissions, it may be visible to those to whom it should not be visible. If you choose the option to set your own permissions and you choose all No's, forum will not be visib...

The ad code above is for the new Anchor/overlay and Vignette ads. They will only display on high end mobile devices and do not count towards your max 3 ads a page. Once the code is in place, google (adsense) takes over and decides if, when and how often the ads will display and they will only work o...

Re: 3.1.9 New Install - Cant Set Up Categories and Forums

If you know about permissions then everything's already in place. My idea (And one that I now know was used in phpBB2 but removed for 3 is for those that skip setting permissions because the phrase "Now you are able to set permissions for this forum." may as well read " The space tomatoes can now be...

The option to set your own permissions should not be taken away.
