Bot? 111.13.8.119

From 24 hours ago, since I last cleared the sessions table, I noticed an oddly large amount of sessions recorded on my board. It turned out that I have 14,000 sessions recorded for the IP address 111.13.8.119, compared to 725 others. Has anyone else noticed this? I looked up this IP address but coul...

Re: [Discuss] Introducing Forumatic - Managed phpBB Hosting

Are you affiliated with phpBB/Forumatic, yuritenshi, or was that just something you concluded yourself (genuine question, I don't know either way)? I didn't even think the distinction would be as great as that, and expected it to be more closely tied - kinda like the Ubuntu Foundation and Canonical...

Re: [Discuss] Introducing Forumatic - Managed phpBB Hosting

As it says there, Forumatic is a separate entity. It's revenue does not directly go to phpBB, but their intent is to use the profit to better phpBB, by possibly paying for full time developers and hosting their own events related to phpBB. As it is a separate entity, they obviously are not required ...

Re: Is this a consideration when deciding which MODs to inst

The number of edits is very important, above functionality in some cases. There are a number of modifications with features that would be very nice to have, but require significant editing in order to get the features seamless with phpBB. The huge number of edits means that any changes in the core f...

Re: When

It was 5 1/2 years to get to phpBB3 from phpBB2. It's been 4 1/2 years since phpBB3 released. phpBB4 is pretty much not started (some planning and there has been talk of work on external librarys that will be needed for phpBB4, but no actual code for it). I wouldn't think about phpBB4, at the rate i...

Re: Twitter resists US court's demand for Occupy tweets

Probably to a Federal court, if both sides are adamant on the issue, potentially the Supreme Court. Disputing a lower court's decision is common, that's where higher appeals courts come in.

Re: phpbb.com pagerank decrease today !!!

Spam generally doesn't stay up on a site long, unless it's an unmaintained site-in which case their PR is probably low anyways and the site linked to won't get anything out of it. I'm sure google has some simple algorithms to detect most forms of spam like that anyways.

Re: phpbb.com pagerank decrease today !!!

I don't know if I agree with that, getting a high PR isn't a trivial task and, typically, sites with higher PR have more valuable content.

Re: phpbb.com pagerank decrease today !!!

High PR can be worth tens of thousands of dollars. A PR6 website with zero traffic can generate around 4-5K of revenue yearly off of the PR alone with a couple of text link ads.

Re: phpBB is a very bad choice for forum

If a lot of people are having issues because they are not setting it up properly, that would seem to imply that good documentation and user-friendliness is absent. It's a simple fact that few people read documentation, especially extremely poor documentation, blaming them for not doing it, when like...

Re: Images why do not the file extension?

All files are downloaded through the download/file.php script, for security reasons. This is a common practice across the internet, so if you want it fixed you'll have to talk to the one who wrote that extension.

Re: Got this, wondering if its real?

As a general rule, when reading emails that claim to be from companies or organizations, look at the domain from which the email came from and make sure that the domain coincides with a legitimate business (ex: @phpbb.com) If it is from a domain that provides free email accounts, including gmail, ho...

Re: Many forum attempts yet all fail. Any help?

Why do you want to run your own board?

If all you want to do is provide technical support, why not instead join a board that does that and become an active contributor there, or even at multiple boards?
