Re: Lessons to be learned from XKCD forums being hacked

Sorry, that was a misunderstanding. My comment was intended for readers of this topic to check their own boards. I have revised my post.

Re: Lessons to be learned from XKCD forums being hacked

Shodan knows all. https://www.shodan.io/host/104.196.146.194 They could start by reading my advice on at least using Ninjafirewall and how to stay hidden behind CloudFlare. For a free CloudFlare account you can't beat it. Certainly can't find my origin IP no matter how hard you try. I know all the ...

Re: User password length vs reset password length

I have several complaints from users who did not want to type in a long reset password. They did not recognize that one can copy and paste the reset password into the login box field. A change to the password reset form may also help. The form is here: language/en/email/user_activate_password.txt . ...

Re: Banned or suspended user receives "The submitted form was invalid. Try submitting again."

I have successfully incorporated the fix on my production server. Thank you very much. My concerns about disabling "Tie forms to guest sessions:" are related to your earlier post stating there were no public details on what led to the [SECURITY-228] - Require form token in login_box issue addressed ...

Re: Banned or suspended user receives "The submitted form was invalid. Try submitting again."

EA117 - I see that your first pull request has been committed to the 3.2.x branch. 8-) I have incorporated the update from [ticket/16066] Fix FORM_INVALID always returned for banned user. Pull Request #5635 and confirm the fix on my localhost test environment. Based on your clear explanations, I ass...

Re: Banned or suspended user receives "The submitted form was invalid. Try submitting again."

Thank you for the helpful explanation, as I can now understand the problem. I have no concerns of using the work-around as you suggest. Your topic "Normal reasons" for FORM_INVALID which now also apply to login forms. - Development Discussion Board describes my situation posted in an earlier report:...

Re: Banned or suspended user receives "The submitted form was invalid. Try submitting again."

(phpBB version: 3.2.7) My board is receiving support requests from banned members who receive the "The submitted form was invalid. Try submitting again." message. They are unable to login (and therefore do not know they were banned). I can reproduce this behavior with my production database in a loc...

You are using a nested list, but I only see one closing
. What happens when you add the second closing
? Re: Problem with posting links

There's not enough information here to understand your configuration. For example, what is your phpBB version? When did the problem start? Do you have any modifications (extensions or styles) installed? I recommend supplying information of your configuration with the Support Request Template Generat...

Re: Best practice for creating test installation

2) Build up a local system and set it up as a local webserver. I do have an unused Ubuntu PC I may be able to use for this. This is the option I use. My computer is configured as a 'localhost' server. I'm completely able to use this PC for both personal use and server testing. You should to match c...

Re: Banned or suspended user receives "The submitted form was invalid. Try submitting again."

Thank you for this information, as I can also reproduce this problem in my localhost test environment. With my current ACP --> General --> Security settings --> Tie forms to guest sessions: "Yes" my banned test account receives the "The submitted form was invalid. Try submitting again." message. Cha...

Re: Should /docs folder be deleted during install or update?

I always delete my /docs folder.

Those files are part of the install package and have no functional purpose after the installation has completed. I think it is good programming practice to remove non-functioning code - which includes documentation.

@pennycsf - Both Lumpy Burgertushie and KevC are providing expert advice. Removal of your spammer and reporting him to StopForumSpam will simply result in another spammer taking his place. It is a continuous battle that must be managed quickly and decisively. - The StopForumSpam extension will block...

Re: Restrict views of post to admin and Original Poster?

From your description, there is a new member posting false information. Modifying phpBB permissions is not trivial. You should not change permissions based on a single member that could possibly be a spammer. As a moderator, you are able to "soft-delete" posts. Look for an "x" in the top-right corne...
