Re: Increased spam activity for meettomy.site from compromised accounts

My board has one of those hijacked accounts. I move those posts to a dedicated subforum accessible only to my moderator team. This allows me to preserve the post content and IP address. If I need the information later, I'll have it. I also have a different hijacked account using BBCode to mask the U...

Re: Emoji's are broken

Click on the "quote" button in the top-right corner of the first post. You'll see the emojis displayed in the post edit area.

Previewing the post won't show the emojis because the patch has not yet been deployed in this forum.

Re: Emoji's are broken

Thank you! After testing, I have implemented the fix on my production server and confirm the host domain change to cdn.jsdelivr.net.

Re: Emoji's are broken

I was hoping to have a patch fix. Perhaps as an archive - .gz or .zip.

I'm not seeing P_I's emojis in the first post.

Update: They eventually showed up. (Viewed page later, no emojis.)

Add Elasticsearch search backend into core

My board has a very large postgreSQL database. We have recently changed to the Sphinx search backend due to problems and limitations with the postgreSQL and phpBB native search backends. However, we are concerned over Sphinx long-term support. The source code is proprietary and is no longer maintain...

Re: Improve Group Permissions to show all on a single page

From someone who has had to navigate those permissions, having everything in a single page would be very helpful.

The page could be dynamic, meaning to change the content based on the permissions selected.

Re: Ability to auto-lock topics to prevent necroposting

In my board, it is very helpful and relevant for the members to post updates of a specific situation. It is important that members see the entire discussion from start. Linking to an older discussion is not helpful because members may not follow those links. Important points from those earlier discu...

Re: Search Backend - PostgreSQL/Sphinx/phpBB Native/MySQL Fulltext -> which one to choose?

I just switched to the Sphinx search backend and have this problem. It's not only with unapproved posts, but with soft-deleted posts and topics. I have filed a bug report here: [PHPBB3-16993] Sphinx search backend does not find soft-deleted or unapproved posts - phpBB Tracker It's a significant impa...

Re: PostgreSQL experience, maybe even thru migration

I've been using postgreSQL since phpBB 2.x. I'm not a database expert, but my server administrator says that postgreSQL has much better performance (compared to mySQL) for large databases. Another criteria is migrating to postgreSQL. Moving from one database to another is not an easy process. I have...

Re: Discuss: phpBB 3.3.3 Release

I just updated from phpBB 3.3.2 to 3.3.3. There were no problems with my localhost test environment, but my production server had a change in behavior reporting the version information. Neither clearing my cache/ directory (from the command line) nor restarting apache could change the Administration...

Re: Discuss: phpBB 3.3.2 Release

Noticed after the update, the American English language pack has not been updated for 3.3.2. I would ask the question - why are you updating when everything that you need for your board is not available? A board should not, in my opinion, be updated/upgraded until all files, extensions, styles and ...

Re: Discuss: phpBB 3.3.2 Release

Yes, but the idea is to make your board feel like "home". You can certainly understand the content, but it doesn't have a "local" feel. This will reduce the reader's impression of your board in a small way. You will always notice that the site is "different". My non-US ...

Re: Discuss: phpBB 3.3.2 Release

I have successfully updated my production board from phpBB 3.3.1 to 3.3.2. Noticed after the update, the American English language pack has not been updated for 3.3.2. User Control Panel --> Board preferences --> Edit notification options contains 4 undefined variables: NOTIFICATION_TYPE_FORUM NOTIF...

Re: Discuss: phpBB 3.3.2 Release

Do you have change the php version ? Can that topic be made a sticky? Common problems while upgrading to 3.3.0 Otherwise, it's not visible to anyone when viewing the support forum - it's the first thing one would look for. I had a related problem. My passwords didn't work after upgrading PHP to 7.4...

Re: Updating PHP 7.3 to PHP 7.4 login fails with invalid password

Thank you! I had assumed there was something wrong with my build, but I didn't understand the documentation. My OS test environment is Fedora 31, production is CentOS 7. Via private message, P_I has supplied an explanation that a module is missing by default. See: enable support of Argon2 hashes in ...
