Re: favicon

If you're using a modern browser, then yes, you can just place the favicon in the root. There are caching issues that might prevent Chrome from showing it right away (and in fact for days later). What you can do is create a test favicon with an online app like Favicon Generator , upload the test fav...

Re: Heard about Bitcoin ?

The whole idea is based on wasting energy: you just compute. It is not based on substance. Right, and Wall Street is based on substance. Millions of people working in backoffices around the world verifying ACHs, wires, and paper money transfers, getting salaries for basically nothing, creating load...

Re: Heard about Bitcoin ?

Sayin that Bitcoin is being used for drugs etc is not a fair argument. Money is used for bad purposes too. Many great non-profit organizations accept Bitcoin for donations (including Wikipedia!) and the number of online stores accepting it for payments has been steadily growing. Granted the exchange...

Gaming forum style

What are some of the modern-looking styles for a gaming forum that are either free or paid? Maybe something similar to a site like Nintendo Forums (I know it doesn't run on phpBB, but I like the layout). The style has to have the ability to incorporate a header from the most recent games that can be...

Re: Mass-delete a signature

I didn't mean to defend my point so aggressively either but got caught up in the arguing, sorry.

The reason I wanted to clean it up was because there were broken images in thousands of posts all over the forum, and it was unsightly to visitors.

Cheers

Re: Mass-delete a signature

Hah, so you're one of those "I'm going to show that the other person is wrong no matter what" kind of guy, huh. the assumptions I and others made here were based on the apparently incorrect information that you posted above. The assumptions you made were based on your incorrect interpretation of the...

Re: Mass-delete a signature

Got it done in 2 seconds with the following query:

Code: Select all

UPDATE `table_name`
SET `signature` = replace(signature, '', '')

Re: Mass-delete a signature

otherwise you will have to do a database backup, download that backup to your computer, open that huge file with a good text editor. do a find and replace for that image url with something else or with nothing as you decide. Why would anyone download a MySQL database to a computer, edit it, and upl...

Re: Mass-delete a signature

You propose emailing 40 thousand people to tell them to fix their signatures? And if they don't comply, I will be issuing thousands of warnings? OK...

Re: Mass-delete a signature

That's not going to work for two reasons. 1) I don't know which users have this signature. 2) I only want to remove the said code from their signatures. Some of them have other stuff in them.

Mass-delete a signature

I have hundreds of users with a broken signature that references an image that expired a long time ago (all of these users have the same image). Is there a way to delete all of them at once, for example, from phpMyAdmin? This is what the signature looks like: [img]http://example.com/expiredimage.jpg...

Inconsistent meta descriptions

I am comparing two of my phpBB forums, both running 3.0.11, and both have a <meta name="description" content="" /> defined in overall_header. For one of these forums, Google search returns the description defined in the meta tag for every individual topic. For the second forum, Google shows the begi...
