Re: VPN discussion: Are they necessary?

A VPN would also prevent Google and other major tracking services from being able to use the IP as a means to track you. But see, the issue with thinking that is that it's only a security-blanket type of a cover that's doing almost nothing at all in the way of protecting from targeting advertisers ...

Re: VPN discussion: Are they necessary?

In my VPN I can disable IPv6 for some reason. So why it's there must be a security reason. I'd have to ask my VPN as to why it's there. Probably for the weird/rare times when someone's dealing with something that's not compatible with IPv6. There's also some mis-led privacy concerns that people hav...

Re: VPN discussion: Are they necessary?

This could be a different issue for anyone with a static IP address and could become a problem in the future if/when IPv6 starts to be rolled out Ehh, I don't totally agree with that statement. When IPv6 rolls out widely, there will be an allocation of something like 5,000,000,000,000 IP Addresses ...

Re: eu copyright reform article 13

I would suggest that the number of boards/websites that don't meet all three of those things would be somewhere less than 1% of the total number of phpbb installs around the world. There's plenty of phpBB boards that have been around for longer than three years, though... along with the fact that i...

Re: eu copyright reform article 13

So I'm gonna go ahead and bump this based off of yesterday's events. We're probably going to need some more EU compliancy extensions built: - Link detections and removal request form/process - Upload filters for attachments Organizations are exempt from the new passed laws ONLY if they meet *all thr...

Beacuse of what i see they are collecting ip logs of all posts. Can someone please explain it to me? Don't let this whole new ...

Congress oversight body recommends GDPR-style privacy laws (USA)

https://www.engadget.com/2019/02/17/gao-gdpr-privacy-laws-us/ https://www.gao.gov/assets/700/696437.pdf Quick observations: Republicans calling for it seem to be typically aligning with the call for a reg to demand the FTC to come up with whatever rules governing a limited set of types of insittutio...

Re: Google GDPR fine.

I am no fan of how google does business and they will get theirs one of these days. however, I do hope they and the other big ones put the GDPR in its place. the whole law seems to be written by people that have no idea how the internet works. It also seems to leave out any personal responsibility ...

Re: New GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) and phpBB

Bumping a topic from a bit ago, but this came out recently in case anyone's interested: https://www.dataprotectionreport.com/2018/12/edpb-clarifies-territorial-scope-of-the-gdpr/ What qualifies as offering goods and services? The GDPR applies to entities that target data subjects in the EU with good...

Re: New GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) and phpBB

It has totally nothing to do with trading ... If you want to trade personal data, then that's just why the GPDR came to effect, because the EU does not want that. Exactly, and the EU is working on removing those sorts of trade restrictions. It's indeed quieting down, which only means that questions...

Who merged this? I feel that there's a ton of context missing all of a sudden... Also, as an update, I have not heard anything further on the RTBF request that I denied. (I gave the guy access to what he wanted after he replied explaining... he just wanted to see if his account had ever logged in fr...

Re: New GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) and phpBB

Had two GDPR requests, one for access and one for erasure. Denied them both with a link to the US Declaration of Independence.

Will keep you all posted.
