@phpnewbtard, nice! This may be an easy quick & dirty fix to the problem, something to look into. I am still not using phpBB, because it causes me more headaches to figure out conversion from Vanilla, but it's definitely something I'll keep an eye on.
I'm still stuck with my idea of migrating from Vanilla v2.1.x to phpBB v3.1.x because both conversion options are not working as supposed to, but it just came to my mind that I'm facing another problem: My Vanilla community is using Markdown as interpreter, which means even if I manage to successful...
Isn't that what the SMF guys are doing? They have one converter script and one sql file containing the database queries. I'm certainly not qualified to comment this, but there must be a simple solution that they offer such a wide range of converting possibilities.
... This is custom programmed and was rather expensiv ... I see, that would be a problem then to share the code. No, the code is mine, because I bought it. Well, then it looks like we should convince you to release it. It's totally understandable if that's not on your agenda (for now), as lo...
Wow, that's really amazing, @Holger. If such functionality could be incorporated somehow, it would be outstanding. All that in one extension would make a total killer add-on, @DavidIQ.
@DavidIQ, it's what @Holger mentioned some postings back: To extend this I have let a programmer mod the code so that we (mods and admins) can transfer external images to our server by an one-click action. I will ask the programmer to release it when we migrate. But that might take some months. So m...
I'm currently working on the JavaScript for ReIMG so once I finish I'll take a look at adding some attached image server side resizing functionality unless someone else picks this up. What would be the desired features? Sounds great! Desired features: Automatic down-sizing of image to configured re...
Exactly, it really is that serious! I have even put up a sticky explaining how to prep a pic before upload, even with a link to a free Web Photo Resizer , but my forum members are altogether so untechnical they have no idea what I'm talking about. And it's totally understandable, I don't want to bur...
All valid points, one way or another. I think other forum admins either are not aware of the mentioned problems or they don't care, but if we can draw more attention to this the more people participate the better our chances get that maybe someone with the proper knowledge and some spare time could ...
I have no idea about the effort to make such an extension or to move a phpBB 3.0.x mod over to a phpBB 3.1.x extension. Did you pay a programmer to do that custom mod for you? If someone here should take the bait and actually create such a super pic extension, could you donate the code for that one-...
It is the same with my communities. To extend this I have let a programmer mod the code so that we (mods and admins) can transfer external images to our server by an one-click action. So you already have a mod (extension?) in place that does all of it including one-click importing of images hosted ...
Because most admins won't allow uploading of massive amounts of images or large sized images to their servers through the upload feature. That is why the img BBCode exists and why many wouldn't benefit a whole lot from this. ;-) In fact the only way to target img BBCode referenced images for this &...
People tend to upload pics directly from their camera, resulting in megapixel images with several MB in size. You do realize you can limit the size of attachments, right? ;) And that's exactly NOT the point. In my community most users are not that accustomed to using a computer, and although I have...
