Re: Scripting commands

Please PM me a link to your board and I will stop 99.9% of your spam. Will do. Sorry for the delay, didn't see any email notice about it. I just removed nearly 200 more and can see in the apache log connection after connection trying to create more accounts. It's frustrating since I keep changing t...

Re: Scripting commands

Did you read this? https://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtopic.php?t=2122696 Yes, I've been using the Q&A for a while now. They just seem to beat it. In fact, I wonder if it is just one person that manually answers then sets their script for the Q&A. It just seems the more I delete them, the more the...

Yup, very true. I just like having options but making the site more spammer secure would be the first thing to tackle.

Re: Scripting commands

Yes and that is my point exactly. Too many clicks when you have dozens of accounts to remove. It would be a lot faster to simply use a CLI script, entering the username when running the script. I could kill them all in minutes rather than the amount of time it takes now. Sorry but I cannot see how ...

Re: Scripting commands

Q&A with the right question, works. It is the Gold Standard of spam blockage. So rather than work on a cure, let's work on prevention. Please provide a link to your board so we can (1) see what your current question is, and (2) help you formulate an effective question. By the way, there is nothing ...

Scripting commands

No matter the Q&A, someone or everyone seems to be able to figure out the challenge and I end up spending a freaking hour removing spam every day. I need some way of removing users and their posts without having to go through so many steps or will have to give up on phpbb and find something differen...

Re: Notifications sent AFTER logging in

OMG, no way, it's in the user's settings? I've been digging and digging finding nothing in the board settings.

There are so MANY options in phpBB, it's hard to get used to it but thanks to people responding here, it keeps me, and I assume others, wanting to continue using this board.

Thank you!

Re: Notifications sent AFTER logging in

Now I'm confused. Of the two options? What two options are you speaking about? What do you mean by those are not emails? When I log into the board, a large number of *emails* are sent to my mail address. Those are notifications of new posts. Someone said that this cron process is initiated when peop...

Re: Notifications sent AFTER logging in

I see and now it makes sense. There is very little traffic on these new forums at the moment, none really other than spammers.

Any way of running the task vis regular cron job then? Meaning, which file needs to run?

Re: Notifications sent AFTER logging in

Doh.... emails, exactly as they are sent but only after I log in :).

They should be sent before I log in, not when I do.

Notifications sent AFTER logging in

For some reason, new user posts/notifications are only sent after the admin logs into the board. If we don't check, we would never know that someone has signed up or posted something. I've not found a way to change this mainly because I am not sure of the search terms to use. No matter how I search ...

Re: Seems like all the spammers are from Russia?

Much clearer now. Thanks for all the input.
So far, no new spammer registrations what so ever since changing to Q&A based on input here.

Re: Seems like all the spammers are from Russia?

Hi, sorry for the long delay but yes, I've tested using a Q&A and I think that will work. If not, then I'll look at some of other other suggestions in this thread. I suppose part of the issue is that it's not clear to me why this has stopped spammers so far. Are they mainly bots? If they are bots, h...

Re: Seems like all the spammers are from Russia?

Problem with that is it makes it very difficult for legit signups to answer. Quite the conundrum.
