Re: List benefits of upgrading

Thanks for all the replies. So we have a list of: 1. PHP-7 will be supported 2. Modifications are easier 3. The link given lists nothing of interest to me as a user at all and very little that is actually any functional improvement if anything at all. 4. You will lock the support forum. So my respon...

List benefits of upgrading

I am using a V3.0 board and looking at 3.1 I can't see any reason to change.
Are there any real reasons to change to a newer release?
Is there a list of benefits anywhere?

thanks

Doesn't anyone know how the login system works?

Every time I patch in it just doesnt work - I must be missing something.

Thanks oyabun - I wasn't sure if this belonged here or not.

Doesn't anyone know the point at which a user is finally logged in?

hook into login before forum starts

I am trying to add an include php file after a users password and username are verified but before the forum does anything else. I need the file to run just once on initial login. I've found the switch $method = login section in ucp.php but can't seem to patch in there. Can someone point me at a sui...

Re: Http:// redirect to Https:// ?

You need to learn more about the server software you are using. If you use apache this is a httpd.conf AND SSL configuration so you need to learn how to do that either from the apache docs or a reputable website that deals with apache. (using .htaccess won't help you at all with this issue anyway I'...

Re: Http:// redirect to Https:// ?

This seems to be a more complex issue and is one I am struggling with myself a bit. I am trying to get my own forum on https and there is always something not quite right. I'll put some notes here on what I've found in case it helps somehow - if moderators think it unsuitable here please just delete...

Re: User post time stamps randomly incorrect

judging from brf's post presumably that would be banned here but I think I am allowed to PM you
so I'll suggest a host that way.

Re: User post time stamps randomly incorrect

If you're doing anything more than posting a web page with pictures of your kids and pet dog
my advice would be to get a decent hosting service asap.
Really I think you're storing up trouble for the future being there.

Re: User post time stamps randomly incorrect

I dont know if this is relevant to you but I have seen 3 people with time problems in the last few weeks. 2 of them were using VPS servers and the virtualizer software (XEN in both cases) had issues the day after the last BST time change in that they went exactly 1 hour out. (IE 2 hours shifted in t...

Re: cookie info

Thanks Mick

I found the problem - the clue being that I could see session cookies but not others.
It turned out to be a setting in the browser.

cookie info

I am attempting to implement the login procedure described by NBishop here: https://www.phpbb.com/support/docs/en/3.0/kb/article/phpbb3-cross-site-sessions-integration/ I am looking at the cookies in my browser but can only see one single style cookie when logged into phpbb This session cookie has t...

Re: Mixed Case username support phpBB 3

Interesting thread - Is there a page somewhere listing such basic specs - such as the characters allowed in usernames and lengths etc? Are there any limitations in the password characters? I don't actually have an issue but now the topic has come up I find I'm curious. I've looked in the docs (what ...

Re: Warning about mbstring.http_input and mbstring.http_output?

Some suggestions: (I'm assuming you use apache and probably linux here - if not ignore me) What I'd do is first run phpinfo() and check that mbstrings have been compiled in If not - are you on Centos-6 - if so your provider may not realise that Centos-6 (final) does not include mbstrings I don't kno...
