Re: Is there a "ban-by-IP" limit?

Unnecessary and a waste of time and resources. Just use a good Q&A. Whether or not it's unnecessary or a waste of time & resources, the time and resources used to create 10-20 questions/answers is small potatoes. In any case, it's been slightly over a week since I put the Q&As in place. And since t...

Re: Unlocking the whole forum

Kevin, Thank you. The problem is solved. Apparently, my browser cache wasn't cleared properly. I could see one button but not the other (weird). But when I refreshed the browser, both buttons showed up. Go figure. In any case, this "en" vs. "en_us" issue reminded me of a quote from George Ber...

Re: Unlocking the whole forum

I'm using the "twilightBB" style (if that's what you mean by style). I set up a new user (using another browser so there wouldn't be any cookie issues) to test this problem. After I copied the "en" directory into "en_us," the PM button now shows up. But (sigh), the "new topic" button still doesn't s...

Re: Unlocking the whole forum

Originally, I thought it was a permissions issue. But Click Here to see the permissions settings for "Newly Registered Users." These settings are also present for "Registered Users." Admins and Global Moderators are set to "Full Access" while all other users (except bots) are assigned "Standard Acce...

Unlocking the whole forum

Hello, I'm using phpBB 3.0.11 and have got it all set up and running. The problem is that, at the bottom for the forum index page, there's an "X" in a button and next to it, it says "Forum Locked." As Admin, I can create all the posts I want. But nobody else can. How do I "unlock" the entire forum? ...

Re: Is there a "ban-by-IP" limit?

usually you only need one question that works. the problem with the mulitple questions is if the bots find the answer to one of them you won't know which one it was. That's true. But spambot usernames and/or email addresses are pretty easy to spot. My board is set up to allow activation of register...

Re: Is there a "ban-by-IP" limit?

don't know much about plesk but I would think it would have phpmyadmin or some other database management tool included in the server software bundle. Before attempting to install phpmyadmin, I first tried to access it with my browser. It wasn't there. I agree with you, though. Since PHP was include...

Re: Is there a "ban-by-IP" limit?

Unnecessary and a waste of time and resources. Just use a good Q&A. That's what I'll do. FWIW, my attempt to install phpmyadmin failed. It refused to accept my password - giving me this error line (10 times after 10 tries): "ERROR 1045 (28000): Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using passw...

Re: Is there a "ban-by-IP" limit?

Thanks to everyone for the advice. First things first, though. I have to install phpmyadmin on my server - and found what I think is an excellent tutorial page on that for someone like me (new to operating a dedicated server): http://draalin.com/installing-phpmyadmin-in-ubuntu/ FWIW, this was my rea...

Is there a "ban-by-IP" limit?

I'm running phpBB v.3.0.11. I've been doing a lot of "ban-by-IP" operations lately. But earlier today, I attempted to ban a few IP ranges. This time, however, I was sent to a blank white page. And since then, I've not been able to ban by IP number or range. Is there a limit to the number of IPs or I...

Re: Country IP banning

Well, I tried to ban China by IP-range based on info in this file: http://www.nirsoft.net/countryip/cn.csv I manually converted the file into a simple text file ... showing only the IP ranges separated by a dash. But after I submitted the list, my admin access to the page allowing me to add or unban...

Re: A newbie question on BBCode.

this works for me: <div style="text-align: center;">{TEXT}</div> check your bbcode and make sure it is exactly like that. test it in prosilver to see if it works there. if so then it is something wrong with your other style. robert Thanks, Robert. Unless I cannot do it, I always copy/paste. And, I ...

A newbie question on BBCode.

Note that I'm using phpBB 3.0.11 with the twilightBB style and American English language pack installed. I tried to use the [center][/center] BBCode on my signature line and noticed it didn't work. So, I did some checking on this forum's help pages which led me to a page to enter a "custom" BBCode. ...
