Re: GDPR compliance is going to be left optional, right?

<snip>The thing that's interesting is that this information can become false at any time, and at that point, you would have to erase that material. It could be as simple as "So and so, who can be seen walking down such and such a street in a blue hat frequently" becoming false when they start weari...

Re: GDPR compliance is going to be left optional, right?

the letter is sent to the letters page That was too vague to me to identify the meaning of publishing a 1:1 copy of my letter (is this even possible? Or is it only the text, without me drawing fancy pictures or writing by hand? I mean: I still don't know which details are published and which are no...

Re: Clever quote testing

you would have to check all quoted text within a post You mean the quoted text is a kind of "protected area"? That would make the system much too complicated. Leave it as it is - don't check the quoted text. What happens if the source of the quoted text is edited? Change the quote the same way? Exa...

Re: GDPR compliance is going to be left optional, right?

That letter is then published in the Radio Times. Why? If they do so without my consent I'm not the one who insisted on publishing it. This is a bad example. Not to speak of anonymizing a publication. You write a letter to the letters page of The Radio Times as the letter is sent to the letters pag...

Re: GDPR compliance is going to be left optional, right?

I have been thinking about this some more, as well as trying to read/understand the documents. As I understand it, this is about information held and used by YOU the website owner. Looking at this from a slightly different angle. You write a letter to the letters page of The Radio Times. The letter ...

Re: Clever quote testing

Having thought about it overnight, I can not see this ever being made workable. As Ger states, you would have to check all quoted text within a post. That might be a quote from the previous post, the previous page, the first post, another topic, the list goes on. To check one post against the whole ...

Re: Clever quote testing

You can see that the user id has been changed on one of the quotes. The quote is still attributed to P_I but clicking the ꝉ takes you to another profile. Try it and see. Clicking the ꝉ takes you to the quoted post as it should be but clicking on the username in quote takes you to another profile (J...

Re: Clever quote testing

I think it belongs in discussion, so I'll move it there now. To unconfuse the confused. When you quote a post you get something like P_I was posting This post really isn't quotable, but I'm testing something here. That really wasn't a clever quote, but then again I'm just testing. Anyone notice some...

Re: Clever quote testing

so when you submit a post with a quote, the 'byline' is posted as is with no internal checking.

... but why does the poster name not change when obviously the content has? Obviously it is linking to the name of the original quoted poster, but why?

How did you do that?

Re: Pro or not sitemap?

<snop> it's good to have a sitemap </snip> It might be good to have a sitemap, but it is not NEEDED. Google is a lot cleverer than most people realise, and will index your forum without any problem. As both Mick and I have stated, if you want a sitemap you the one I linked to previously is what you...
