fanboys hurt this forum

reading this thread is somewhat depressing. personally, i do not care all that much about SEO - my issue is completely different. clearly, phpbb can do better with SEOs. it does not even matter if the issue is real or is it mainly about perception (and at least one poster here convinced me that it's...

Re: Is there a word limit to how much you can post?

My post is more like 100,000,000. What's the maximum after changing the schema? That depends on what you change it to, which depends on which rdbms you're using and how it's configured. Also on the available storage space. I believe that the max for longtext is 4 Gigabytes. actually, there are othe...

Re: Extensions and translations

One possible solution would be.... How's that? (truncated for brevity - quoting just to make it clear which post i'm responding to. post itself is 2 above) as far as i understand what you are saying, i think it's an excellent solution. one unanswered question (or at least, one question i did not un...

Re: Extensions and translations

thanks. my intentions raising the issue was not to promote any specific solution/rule/course of action, but rather to raise an issue which i perceive as a real problem, and solicit ideas and proposals from the community and the team. if no good solution can be found at this point in time, i at least...

[*]Don't back-seat moderate. It's against the rules . asking you to not go off-topic is not "back seat moderation". [*]You're way off. When I said "Us" I meant extension authors as extensions are what I assume you're talking about here, an assumption I made after you said this: so i could not find ...

Re: Extensions and translations

Most of us have our contributions on github where the flow is pretty much this. who do you mean when you say "most of us"? are you a translator, and this "us" means "the translators"? if so, i do not think you have your facts right. i do not believe most translators have github account[1] if this "...

Extensions and translations

hi. so i could not find any "official" way to add a new language to an existing extension. what happens as a result, is that the local communities in different languages (or at least, some of them), grab existing extensions, unpack them, add a translation to their local language, repack them with th...

Re: [Discuss] phpBB 3.1.1 Release - Please Update

You are using a php version lower as 5.3.3, which is the minimum for phpBB 3.1 this seems somehow wrong, no? this file (install/index.php) has a check for php version at the top. yet, some syntax that depends on php version appear further on (specifically, the namespace stuff at line 110). i think ...

Re: [Discuss] phpBB 3.1 Ascraeus is upon us

I guess you haven't actually used our download packages? There are a few methods of updating. Doing the traditional "diff" is just one of them and those in the situation where they've changed core code should know that is the update path they'll need. The rest would either just use the changed file...

Re: [Discuss] phpBB 3.1 Ascraeus is upon us

Just as in 3.0, there will still be an update package that will merge code changes with the upgraded-to version. this sounds wrong. especially if this "update package" will use the same syntax as current mods do (which is the syntax of 3.0 "update" files). why would you want to do that? with 3.0, p...

PayBas wrote:They're working on it ;). Not a phpBB 3.1 problem, but rather a phpbb.com problem.
if you read my original post, you'll see i said exactly that...
i'm not posting just to say that - i'm posting to comment that the problem seems to be fixed. thanks, whoever fixed it.

peace.

Re: [Discuss] phpBB 3.1 Ascraeus is upon us

o answer the question literally - 100% of mods' functionality *can* be implemented with extension. I call bullshit on this. Every current bridge between phpBB 3.0 and WordPress/Joomla (maybe Drupal too, but who cares about Drupal these days) is impossible to port to 3.1 without core edits. Why? Sev...

site on 3.1 bug report

this is not a 3.1 bug per-se: same functionality works fine on area51. i noticed that ego search does not show posts that were written after phpbb.com was upgraded to 3.1 (at least for me). if your experience differ, or if it confirms this report, please reply to this message (no need for 100 "me to...

Re: [Discuss] phpBB 3.1 Ascraeus is upon us

I have not followed phpBB development for years. Are extensions going to completely replace MODs? What percentage of MODs out there could be turned into an extension? How do extensions impact site performance? i'll pick this one up: # Are extensions going to completely replace MODs? yes. of course,...

Re: [Discuss] phpBB 3.1 Ascraeus is upon us

congratulations. i also liked very much the new "launch" page - https://www.phpbb.com/about/launch one small nitpick: i think the "Over 1k bug fixes, 1.5k improvements & 11k commits." on top of the image emphasizes the wrong thing. counting the # of bug fixes, or the number of commits is just backwa...
