Re: User registration settings: Account activation

IP is generally all you need to look at. Anything from the usual suspects like Russia, China, Ukraine, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Philippines, Thailand or Vietnam are most likely spambots. You can ban *@*.ru in the email list to save you a bit of time :) Thanks. I did use the "Whois" function and...

Just use a Q&A which can't be googled
Thanks for the suggestion. I'm currently pondering a question that won't boggle the brains of new users too much.

User registration settings: Account activation

After being hit by a few spam accounts that created 300 posts each, I went poking around in my Account activation settings. In there, I found these options: Disable registration No activation (immediate access) By user (email verification) selected By admin For Spambot Countermeasures, I was using t...

Re: Spam attacks

I'm seeing record amounts of spam registrations. It has really ramped up lately. I don't think reCaptcha is very effective anymore.

Re: Spam attacks

As a user of phpBB for something like 7 years now, I'm feeling pretty helpless. I don't have the time to research and manually delete 5 to 10 fake registrations a day. I wish there was a more proactive approach to this problem. As far as I can tell, reCaptcha is totally useless now. The fake registr...

Upgrade, now all localised images won't load

I just did two things. I updated my schema from MySQL 3 to MySQL 5 and upgraded from 3.03 to 3.05. Now some images aren't loading. I happened to notice that ONLY the "localised buttons" are the ones not loading. I only have one language on my site. "British English." When editing imageset the images...

Craigslist style email reply system

I apologize in advance if this question has been answered elsewhere or is otherwise stupid. :) I run a closed board, meaning that people must register if they want to post or contact members. What I would like to do is offer registered members a method of posting and allowing the system to pass alon...

Deactivated user: Searching posts

Is there a way to review all posts for a user account that has been deactivated? Thanks!

Moderator view waiting approval in non-access board

FYI - One of my moderators is able to view "Posts awaiting approval" on boards where the moderator does not have access, even when permissions are set so the moderator cannot see the board.

Non-mod member is "Viewing moderator control panel"

When viewing the "who is online" function I see that a member who is NOT a moderator is listed as:

Viewing moderator control panel

Anyone have any ideas about this? Are they really viewing something they shouldn't or is PHPBB3 just reporting it funny? Thanks!

Character spontaneously changes in a file

I was surfing my web site this morning and went to read a PM. The PM function was working all morning but suddenly it quit working. The error message said something was wrong with kmg() in line 186 of file ucp_pm_viewmessage.php. I went to PHPBB.com to research the kmg() function but there wasn't an...

Mass e-mail opt out?

I just used the "Mass e-mail" feature for the first time ever last night. The page for the function says: "Here you can e-mail a message to either all of your users or all users of a specific group having the option to receive mass e-mails enabled." What happens when "Send to group" is set to "All u...

Re: Password encryption changed from RC1 to RC7?

I just wanted to say thank you for your efforts on this. Your post is MUCH appreciated. I'm not sure if it will help my Perl script or not. Someone else mentioned there might be a way to have my Perl script call the PHP function. If so, that might work if I can figure out what you've posted. I'll tr...
