Re: Meta Description

OK, so that made it better, but how do I get rid of the words "Index Page"? Try using code like this <meta name="title" content="<!-- IF SCRIPT_NAME eq 'index' -->Dashware Gauges<!-- ENDIF --><!-- IF SCRIPT_NAME eq 'viewforum' -->Dashware Gauges - {FORUM_NAME}<!-- ENDIF --><!-- IF SCRIPT_NAME eq 'v...

Re: Pruned topics still showing on board index

ACP > GENERAL > Resynchronise post counts If that doesn't fix everything try resynchronising each forum ACP > FORUMS > Manage forums Neither suggestion worked. Luckily these are less egregious examples of the spammers presence. If you, or anyone, has any other suggestions I'd appreciate them. If no...

Re: Pruned topics still showing on board index

How to clean up a board hit by spam . Thanks for the link. I think my google search criteria were too specific to find that topic with regards to this problem. This fixed the most obvious element on my list which was topics on the index that don't exists. However, I still have a couple small proble...

Pruned topics still showing on board index

Hi everyone, I got smoked by spam-bots on a fairly new (my 1st) forum I've put together. I've pruned away all of the spam users as well as their posts/replies etc. I've also implemented a Q&A countermeasure during account creation to help defend against the automated bots. My question revolved aroun...

Re: Meta Description

Argh, I was trying to use the bold tags for THIS forum post. It isn't really in my code... but duh of course that wouldn't work inside code tags. As for the title thing. I do it that way because I want the Forum name AND the sub-forum name (or Forum name AND topic title) for the facebook title. I'll...

Re: Meta Description

I've finally gotten things working how I want (more or less). NOTE that my experience just now is that you need to use the "og:image" tag (not just "image") if you want to specify the image on a Topic link. For those interested here is the code I settled on for "description" and "title". Thanks to c...

Re: Meta Description

Well I've kinda gotten it to work. If I disable the SEO Meta Description extension and manually put <meta name="description" content="Your source for everything outdoors!" /> (along with similar stuff for title, url, image, etc) it works IN PRACTICE. However, facebook still said that "og:image, og:d...

Re: Meta Description

my PHPBB Board Settings

I have (and have always had) a Site name and description filled in on the setting. Facebook claims that the "og:title" and "og:description" had to be inferred. This is what I'm, specifically, talking about.

Re: Meta Description

Yes you have a good point Brf. The description pulled for phpbb is NOT a "good" description as I thought it was. It is just a different crummy description.

Re: Meta Description

PLUS these phpBB forums don't seem to have the same problems. Sure it does. That text you show for phpbb.com comes from one of the menu options. That is not a good description for the whole page. From one of the "menu options"? It is a link to the Forum Index, and it has a description that is NOT b...

Re: Meta Description

Facebook is a pretty big company, I doubt I'd have good luck getting a reply. PLUS these phpBB forums don't seem to have the same problems. http://steamforge.net/img/phpbb.png I have a feeling that, somewhere in the setup of my phpbb, the meta description is, maybe, being overwritten by the forum st...

Meta Description

I've searched and searched and been unable to find an answer to my question (even though it seems very common and simple!) I'm having a lot of trouble customizing the Meta Description of the BOARD INDEX. I downloaded and installed the Seo Meta Description Extension but it appears to only apply to su...
