Re: [TOOL] Import Users

Will this tool produce any output regarding invalid usernames? Am I safe in assuming passwords valid for phpBB 3.0.x will also be valid for 3.1.x? I'll want to rename any invalid ones so that posts from all users can be imported as well.

Re: "Hello World!" - Extension

I initially thought the folder only needed deleting at the point where the board needs to be available to the public. Since this was just a local install for me to experiment and try things out, and I didn't know if I'd need it later on, I left it alone. I figured out the problem quickly enough and ...

Re: Converting from a custom made UserDB

I'd auto-generate new passwords and email them en masse to the users email addresses with instructions to update them immediately. If there are users without email addresses (I wouldn't expect there to be), you could maybe add a notice on your old message board to provide one in order to keep the us...

Re: "Hello World!" - Extension

This example could do with a note that the install directory must be deleted or renamed before the demo button will function. It might seem obvious to experienced users, but I initially left the folder in case I still needed anything from it. not sure what you are talking about. no extension has a ...

Re: Manually edit the database or write extension for import?

Why don't try to answer your questions yourself installing something like easyphp as localhost and do some experiments? It is a conversion at the end of all, no need to write an extension, a stand-alone executable file instead. I do not think anybody did that before, as far as I know. You stated "a...

Re: Manually edit the database or write extension for import?

If you can recommend some good ones I can give them a try, but I can't guarantee the html used will have been limited to tags that can be converted to BBCodes. I expect quite a lot of errors, since it's a very old message board. I'd like to try to preserve any tables the html contains as well. I'm a...

Re: Manually edit the database or write extension for import?

So, when you say it won't parse, does that mean, it would display as raw text with tags and everything or that the post would be blank or something? JoshyPhp said this in another thread (https://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtopic.php?f=461&t=2309881#p14037956): "Posts in phpBB 3.1 are stored as HTML,...

Re: Manually edit the database or write extension for import?

I realise that even in your previous topic , you didnt specify from what you are converting. Did you make your own way or used a convertor? Did you try to do the convertion? Does it parse html after the conversion? I seem to remember testing this years ago, and putting html directly into the databa...

Manually edit the database or write extension for import?

Does anyone know what would happen if as an admin, I tried to edit a post directly to insert html? Like If I was using phpMyAdmin or some SQL query? Would it have any problem storing the unescaped characters? Would it display as raw text when someone came to view the thread or would it parse the htm...

Re: Idea for safe alternative to html in posts

The think is there are a huge number of posts in this forum and it would be impossible for me to check though all of them individually to verify the html can be converted to BBCodes. I know at least a few threads have tables in them and some have custom formatting that I'd prefer not to lose if I ca...

Idea for safe alternative to html in posts

I'm helping a friend import some posts from an old non-phpBB3 forum and many of them contain html that can't easily be converted into BBCodes. I know allowing users to include html in their posts is a security risk and I wouldn't receive any help with that here, so I had an idea for an alternative. ...
