Anto, Yeah, if it was only your phpBB that didn't work, and you could still get to your database with phpMyAdmin, I'd say that your dbhost or dbname information in config.php was incorrect (sometimes and IP address instead of 'localhost' can work for dbhost, and sometimes a typo or mis-capitalizatio...

Anto, Hmmm.... That's what I suspected. Problem is, if you can't even get to your db using phpMyAdmin with the username and password, then that strongly suggests that your username and password are incorrect. You'll really need to get a working username and password for your database before you can ...

Anto, Sorry, I'm a bit confused by what you mean with "m8". Do you mean that you CAN access your database with phpMyAdmin using the username and password that your host provided? Or you CANNOT access your DB using phpMyAdmin using that username and password? Thanks, David LaLaLumba: You've got a dif...

Dan,

For an unmodded forum, simply upload the changed files, replacing the existing ones. Then be sure to run update_to_latest.php from an /install/ directory (which makes the SQL changes) and you're done.

Good luck,

ultimul, There *is* an excellent article on this site regarding how to optimize phpBB for large forums ... and it specifically addresses this issue, with strategies like preventing many more of the common words from entering the wordmatch table, autopruning it, etc. Problem is, I can't recall where ...

mortimer, Are you using a converter to convert the old posts to new ones? If so, the converters forum on ths site (http://www.phpbb.com/phpBB/viewforum.php?f=10) might be of help. If you're transferring the posts manually (ie. by cut-and-paste), then by default they'll have the time of transfer, not...

Bobble is correct. The only way this exploit would work in 2.0.13 is if the user didn't properly upgrade to 2.0.13 (ie. failure to make the necessary == to === changes). A properly upgrade 2.0.13 forum will be immune from this exploit, which is exactly what it states in the original text. As an asid...

lex,

Unfortunately, if your host is banning IP's of people using your otherwise-normal install of phpBB ... it would seem that it's time to look for another host.

Good luck,

David

BurN,

phpBB doesn't automatically keep a log of user activities (or IP's), but you can always try to get your server logs and find the IP that way (esp. if you know the exact time that this happened).

You should also upgrade to 2.0.13 right away.

Good luck,

Anto, Your error is because your username and password aren't matching those set in the database you're trying to use. Do the usernames and passwords work in another program (like phpMyAdmin)? You'll have to verify that your username, password, and database name are all correct (might have to contac...

slinky, The message will normally stay in your outbox until the recipient reads the message -- then it should automatically move into your sentbox. Perhaps they aren't reading your messages? Other than that, there really shouldn't be a reason why your outbox would act differently from other users......

well it seems that the actual form is intact but all text i.e. username, password etc etc is now missing??? so if I just upload lang_main & profile then will this return the form back to default?? That's what I would try. There's also a chance one of your profile_*.tpl files has become corrupt, if ...

cichlid, What's the error you're getting? The content of the reg agreement is in lang_main.php, while the page that displays it is profile.php ... and if you somehow have lost your anonymous user, that can even make it so people can't register. Letting us know the exact error / symptoms will help wi...

ocdsb, Yeah, unfortunately the SMTP server you're using won't work with phpBB as-is (I believe gmail and a few others are like this), and I'm not sure if phpBB can easily be modified to handle this extra protocol. (FYI, STARTTLS is the command to begin TLS authentication and encryption, meaning that...

Yay!

Yeah, sometimes it's the little things like that, that can be really difficult to troubleshoot.

Later,
